Rug participants at New York Home Fashion Market focus on top trends and sought after constructions.
NEW YORK -- Despite the economic uncertainty due in no small measure to the unpredictable nature of trade tariffs, area rug makers -- perennial optimists -- will present their best offerings, catering to top design trends and popular constructions at the New York Home Fashions Market, running Sept. 15-18, 2025.
“We see the September New York Home Fashions Market as an important moment for the industry," Andy Brumlow, president of Oriental Weavers USA, told RugNews.com. "After a period of uncertainty, there’s a sense that customers are ready to re-engage, with an emphasis on fresh designs, reliable sourcing, and the right balance of quality and value. Expectations are measured but optimistic, and we anticipate meaningful conversations about building programs that can carry into 2026.”
Buyers will be able to shop for some of the most popular rug categories including machine-washable collection debuts, indoor-outdoor introductions, natural fiber designs, and uber soft and inviting area rugs. Top styles expected to continue to grab the attention of big box, mass merchant and online shoppers include a full range of florals from traditional Persian motifs to contemporary floral patterns and cottage-inspired looks.
Other hot design directions include easy to decorate with solids, tonal designs or vintage looks in soft palettes. Other expected top sellers are a fresh crop of geometrics that can add either a casual seaside flair to a setting or offer more tailored or architectural looks to a room.
While the lion's share of debuts highlights today's most popular neutrals including denim blue, brown in varied iterations, and a selection of gray colorways, many of the newest rugs, notably in the washable and indoor-outdoor category, feature colorful choices.
In this industry exclusive, RugNews.com surveys some of New York Home Fashions Market’s biggest names in the rug business and previews what’s heading to showrooms in the Big Apple.
