Area rug introductions at New York Home Fashions Market focused on innovation, fashion and value.
NEW YORK – The Big Apple’s semi-annual home fashions show featuring textile products and area rugs officially kicked off Monday, September 15, with exhibitors reporting surprisingly heavy mass merchant appointments the following day.
Indeed, area rug executives were pleased with the show despite its slow start – a trend toward mid-week rather than weekend appointments that has been affecting all industry shows, including the upcoming High Point Market. Retailers had specific agendas for the New York Home Fashions event – some finishing up orders for the big outdoor selling season; others looking for pre-High Point previews.
What all had in common was the quest for value – and rug companies delivered. Showrooms were crammed with designs and constructions exclusively created for big box and discount stores, stretching the limits of quality and fashion at sharp price points. Ever more sophisticated, styling for this target consumer offers all the coveted looks from abstracts to architecturally textured neutrals seen at upscale showrooms, but for this market they’re created with inventive machine weaving techniques
