Roz Rustigian recalls .....
a magical evening with Berdj Abadjian

This picture was taken in July of 1990 when we were out at a restaurant on the Mediterranean. We were a group of at least 25 people,  many from New York  and all of whom were Berdj's friends from his other life...of cards, games and gambling.

We were in Monte Carlo for the world backgammon tournament. A woman among us was a travel agent who know of all these really nifty places tucked away along the coast.

We ended up at one that was called either The Pirate or The Parrot...I don't think I have ever been sure. 

The waiters were dressed as sailors and pirates (with not much on at all actually) and the whole restaurant slowly evolved into a pirate ship as the meal progressed...including sails and rigging and mast. You broke your plate when your were done with your course. The chef walked cows and goats by the table during dinner. There were constant groups of other waiters serenading...with violins, guitars and fiddles. It was just wild. Someone tied a long napkin around Berdj's head so he fit right in with the theme and he was in his glory and element.

So sad....so very very sad.
