NY HOME FASHIONS MARKET ROUNDUP: PEOPLE & PRODUCTS, PART 1  |
NEW YORK -- In this comprehensive two-part series, RugNews.com reviews the latest area rugs designed for e-commerce and mass merchants shopping New York Home Fashions Market for exclusive looks.
Retailers -- including top names such as Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Tuesday Morning, Company Store, Bed, Bath & Beyond and more -- turned out in force at what was reported to be a very busy and successful market by surveyed area rug vendors. Buyers, according to feedback, where on the hunt for fresh fashion-driven exclusives and updates to private label programs, which are an increasingly important component of this market. They were also interested in the latest additions to licensed programs, such as Nicole Miller by Home Dynamix, Madcap Cottage by Momeni and French Connection by YMF/Creative Home.
The looks selling at the spring installment of this bi-annual show continued to focus on ultra plush designs, textural high-low looks and shimmery accents. Bohemian and abstract motifs continued to trend, as did farmhouse-friendly looks and now fresh Jacobean influenced patterns and contemporary florals, which were springing up at showroom after showroom.

COURISTAN

Couristan's new Bliss assortment (shown below) scored points with buyers shopping spring 2019's first market in New York City. Buyers liked the space-dyed polyester collection's patina-like finish, fringed edges and super soft-hand, said Marlys Giordano, the company's creative director. Shoppers stopping in the Couristan showroom were also looking for fresh outdoor area rugs, giving a thumbs-up to new Timber collection designs.

DYNAMIC RUGS

Dynamic Rugs' Matthew Rouhanian walks the latest designs with father and son, Stephen Fruchter and Glen Fruchter of Montauk Rug & Carpet in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Celebrating 25 years in business, Dynamic Rugs redesigns its New York space and rolls out dozens of new products for buyers to shop. Retailers liked the company's handmade Brook collection, crafted of pure wool in India. Also on show were the company's spring-like floral designs from its Blossom collection.

FEIZY

Feizy featured its new Armant collection of medallions and ornamental motifs at its New York showroom. Made of polyester pile, the assortment features ivory and charcoal with accents of marigold, rust and cerulean. The rug and home textiles maker also offered a preview of its latest 2 million point Sarrant collection. Many New York shoppers stopping by the Feizy showroom were checking out its latest bedding and scatter collection, organized around a series of trend directions - all coordinating back to rugs for a total home look.

HAROUNIAN RUGS INTERNATIONAL (HRI)

HRI principals Lee Harounian and David Harounian flank members of Kenneth Mink's Bloomingdale's buying team Chuck Cashin, David Mink, and Patty Huang.
HRI debuts two machine-made collections that are part of its private label container-only program. The sophisticated Avon is a 2 million point blend of viscose and acrylic [$449 suggested retail in 5x8]. Also introduced for NY Home Fashions shoppers is Surface, a collection of 800,000-point geometric rug designs made of space-dyed polyester ($189 in 5x8).
HRI also offered buyers a first-look at its new collaboration with textile designer Wesley Mancini, which will formally debut at the upcoming High Point Market.

HOME DYNAMIX

Home Dynamix continues to add to its popular Nicole Miller licensing program, introducing the Kenitra collection, crafted of space-dyed polyester.
Home Dynamix continues to add to its most sought-after license programs from designers like Nicole Miller and Trina Turk. The company is growing its assortment of kitchen mats, adding Nicole Miller and Shabby Chic to that category. The company also debuted its inaugural collections of pet beds, blankets and food mats at the spring market in New York City.
KALATY

Part of Kalaty's K2 range, this Serenity collection design's ombre effect and finely woven loop and pile texture was a hit with NY buyers. Shown SE-207
Kalaty, which officially opened its 295 5th Avenue showroom at the spring 2019 edition of NY market, offered a variety of constructions from machine-made of hand-knot for retailers to browse. Buyers here sought out its K2 label of popularly-priced rug collections including Serenity and Renzo, both hand-crafted in a Lori-loom weave in a combination of wool and Silkette yarns.

LOLOI

Attending his first market, Luca Loloi greets NY Home Fashions Market shoppers with his dad, Steven Loloi and grandfather, Amir Loloi.
Loloi's New York space was brimming in a wide variety of styles from tribal flatweaves to printed Persian styles, many in a trending palette of earthy browns and cool grays and blues. The company also added new muted color combinations to its printed Ankara collection, popular with retailers for its fashion looks and sharp price points.

MOHAWK HOME

Mohawk Home introduced New York shoppers to its latest construction called Cashmere, crafted of soft microfiber and showcased in the vignette above.
Mohawk Home highlighted its latest constructions and trends in sumptuous vignettes re-interpreting Southwest looks, farmhouse styles and elegant European designs. For spring shoppers a major focus was on Canyon, comprised of 60 designs from collections woven in a mix of fiber types -- predominately polyester, including space-dyed options, as well as microfiber detailing. Mohawk's new, extra-soft Cashmere construction, made of microfiber, also got top billing.

MOMENI

Reza Momeni shows Tuesday Morning's Krista Selman a sneak peek of the Odessa collection of tribal inspired designs which head to High Point Market.
Momeni continued to showcase its growing Novogratz and Erinn Gates designer collaborations, creating a room setting showcasing each at its spacious New York showroom. The company also offered a sneak peek of the new Odessa collection, which will soon officially premiere at High Point Market.

NATCO/CENTRAL ORIENTAL

Natco continues to promote its made in America story with a series of plush debuts, including Tulsa, crafted in its Maine facility.
Natco, a division of Central Oriental, continues to roll out plush qualities in its latest debuts at New York Home Fashions Market. In fact, the company had a hit on itss hand with its supremely soft Angora collection of solid colored fur-like rugs. Buyers also loved its new Oklahoma and Tulsa constructions, both crafted of frisee polypropylene at the company's Maine factory.
