RECESSION BUSTING TIPS:
WENDY FRIED: WATCH EXPENSES
BUT KEEP YOUR NAME OUT THERE

By Janet Herlihy

WESTBURY, NY -- In the face of the current economic slowdown, Wendy Fried, owner of G. Fried Carpet & Design Center has become more cost-conscious. But that doesn't mean the store has stopped promoting.

"I'm being very frugal and watching expenses," she said."But advertising is still part of the budget, to keep
our name out there."

This is the first in a series of articles on
how retailers and vendors are
fighting the current economic slowdown.

Fried said she is being more specific about where she puts advertising dollars. "We will cut back in print ads because during Spring, people are more focused on being outdoors."

As an example of G. Fried's focused promotional approach, a direct mailer will be sent out to established customers from the company's database, Fried said.

"We are very customer oriented and are making sure
that every consumer who does come in gets great
service. We aren't located near any other floor covering
stores and are a walk from the parking lot. If they
come into the store, they're here for a reason. We try to satisfy
every customer who comes in the door," Fried emphasized.

G. Fried Carpet & Design Center carries carpet, rugs
and smooth surface flooring. On the store's second floor, there are home furnishings and accessories.

"We are working seven days a week. You just have to be strong enough to weather the storm," said Fried.
