With digital sales rising 22 times faster than total sales, U.S. distributors and wholesalers focus on e-commerce during COVID-19, a survey by Digital Commerce 360 states.

CHICAGO -- U.S. distributors and wholesalers enjoyed a record year for B2B e-commerce in 2019 as e-commerce topped annual sales of $870 billion, an increase of 22 percent over the prior year.

As a whole, B2B e-commerce will grow for more than 400,000 distributors and wholesalers in 2020 -- but not as fast as in 2019, according to the 2020 B2B Distributor 300 Report, a newly released research report from Digital Commerce 360.

The COVID-19 pandemic is expected to contribute to growing e-commerce sales in 2020, according to the 2020 B2B Distributor 300 Report..

The reason is the global COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, distributor e-commerce sales will grow at a projected annual rate of 10 percent while all distributor sales will decline at an estimated annual rate of 5 per cent, according to data and analysis in the 2020 B2B Distributor 300 Report.

The emergence of COVID-19, on top of existing challenges, is accelerating the pace of B2B e-commerce, creating digital winners and losers among distributors in its wake. The distributors and wholesalers who win will do so by finding the new opportunities in that shift, the report states.
