Top trends take center stage at the summer edition of Las Vegas Market

LAS VEGAS -- Area rug exhibitors at Las Vegas Market, July 26-30, are showcasing their interpretations of the best-selling trends in the category.

Performance rugs, including washables, remain a bright spot in the industry, so too is the demand for hand-crafted rugs woven from natural materials. An unexpected debut that offers the best of both worlds -- it's washable and handmade of wool -- makes a debut in Vegas. In both performance and hand-crafted categories, the favorite style genres remain updated traditional patterns reworked in fresh palettes, ranging from richly saturated jewel tones to subdued warm neutral tones. Whether shoppers are seeking colorful statement pieces or more subtle tones, today's new classics are expected to be a favorite whether in the form of an heirloom hand-knotted piece or an easy-care option for busy households.

Another trend that continues to dominate the headlines is contemporary geometrics that are full of texture and often with high-low patterns. The palettes remain soft warm neutrals such as ivory and sand, and more saturated hues dominated by inky blues, deep reds and forest greens. Prevalent styles include more free flowing forms moving across the ground to understated, tailored pieces, where straight lines and grids offer a more architectural approach to the genre. Many of the latest introductions in this category are woven of wool meeting the demand for a growing populace seeking natural and sustainable solutions in the home.

A renewed attention is given to Moroccan-inspired rugs for summer shoppers and the latest iterations, executed in wool offer richly colored statement pieces and their converse: minimalist re-interpretations. Expect that this trend will continue and that the most iconic plush style -- the Moroccan Beni Orin -- will usher in a fresh crop of luscious rugs across weaves as consumers again seek out cozy and inviting rugs.

Finally, abstract patterns are also rolling out at market, but many are executed in soft neutrals making them easy to design around. Plenty also offer special high-low details for a richly textured surface.

Below RugNews.com curates its favorite designs and innovative techniques across World Market Center rug showrooms.
