DALLAS -- Area rug and home furnishings maker Surya showcased its rugs in-person for the first time since the Covid-19 shutdown at Atlanta and the Dallas Gift and Home markets in August, and despite lower appointments, show attendees were buying area rugs.

"We were pleasantly surprised with strong attendance at Dallas Market and saw a rebound in orders as well," Parvati Tiwari, VP, strategy and Insight, told RugNews.com. "The health and safety measures taken by Dallas Market Center, as well as within our showroom, gave buyers and designers the confidence to shop in person and prepare for the upcoming season.

"We received a very positive response to some of our newest machine-woven collections, including Brunswick and Avant Garde," she added. "Our recently added hand-knotted Nobility collection also did well with designers."

Earlier this month at Atlanta Market, Surya -- and other market exhibitors -- also reported that buyers were opening their pocketbooks, hungry for new area rug designs and ready to restock their inventories. In Atlanta, Surya's Biscayne, a wool hand-knotted collection that includes recolored traditional motifs; Brunswick; and the eco-friendly Southampton collections were popular with independent retailers and designers at that market.

Surya has introduced dozens of new collections this year and focused those rollouts not only on softness but on key design trends identified by the company, including: Refined Tradition, Space Dyed Yarns, Elevated Abstracts, Tone on Tone Texture and Sophisticated Versatility.
