​STARK Inks Deal to Acquire NJ Floor Covering Business J&S Designer Flooring

The New York luxury rug showroom continues to grow its showroom presence with a deal to acquire the New Jersey carpet and rug showroom, rebranding it as J&S by STARK.

NEW YORK – National luxury carpet and rug company, STARK announced its largest acquisition to-date; that of New Jersey-based floor covering company, J&S Designer Flooring, one of the largest single store carpet retailers in America. The deal, which will go into effect on April 1, 2021, will unite two of the premiere floor-covering companies to form a new brand, J&S by STARK, which will offer customers in the northern New Jersey region an unrivaled product line and a higher level of service and support.

With similar backgrounds – both companies are family owned, operated, and known for their remarkable quality and service – STARK and J&S share the same core values, practices and approach to customer service. STARK’s established reputation for its tremendous assortment, exceptional caliber and unique custom capabilities will be complemented by J&S’ exemplary customer service, local installation expertise and extensive collection of area rugs and broadloom carpet. In combining the best components of both businesses, J&S by STARK will have as its hallmark the same high-quality standards for product, service and selection that customers have grown to expect from both brands.


J&S founders Javid and Sima Hakakian will continue to operate the showroom, which will showcase STARK carpets and rugs, along with other rug and broadloom resources.
 
J&S’s current showroom at 12 Mount Kemble Ave., Morristown, New Jersey, will become J&S by STARK, bringing an exclusive STARK presence to the northern New Jersey market. At 20,000 square feet, the rebranded showroom, which will continue to be operated by J&S co-founder, Sima Hakakian, will enable STARK to best showcase its exclusive carpets and rugs, as well as many other broadloom and rug resources. Additionally, the full-service showroom will now offer STARK’s unique custom abilities, hundreds of new product selections, estimating and full-service installations, along with a selection of hardwood flooring and fabrics from lines including The House of Scalamandré.

The acquisition marks a continuation of STARK’s ongoing strategy to expand its physical footprint in key design communities across the country, in order to provide an easier, more accessible shopping experience for designers everywhere. Over the past four years, STARK has acquired Los Angeles-based showroom, Decorative Carpets to form a new brand, Decorative Carpets by STARK and partnered with established flooring companies in Denver, Little Silver, New Jersey, and in the Hamptons, New York. Most recently, STARK acquired Philadelphia flooring company, Beatrice & Martin Inc. in December of 2020 resulting in the formation of Beatrice & Martin by STARK.
