New Traveling Exhibit At AHF's Hall Fame Explores Sustainability in Furniture Design
4/23/2026
PALECEK's Evan's side chair
HIGH POINT, N.C. -- A new traveling exhibit, Timeless Craftsmanship, Rooted in Nature, exploring the growing importance of sustainability and natural materials in furniture design is debuting at the American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame, 311 S. Hamilton St., during the Spring High Point Market.
Sponsored by PALECEK, a leading source of hand-crafted, sustainably sourced furniture, home accents and lighting, the exhibit invites visitors to explore the myriad ways that natural materials and nature-inspired themes are used in today’s fashion-forward furnishings.
The exhibit includes four displays spotlighting an eclectic mix of natural elements drawn from the PALECEK line. Featured items include PALECEK’s
Carmine
swivel lounge chair in hand-woven natural lampakanay rope; the
Camilla
side table, made of inlaid fossilized clam shell on a stonecast base; the
Iliana
side table, in hand-twisted natural abaca rope woven around a hardwood base and frame; the
Fritz
side chair, which sports hand-twisted lampakanay rope on the arms and seat back; and the
Evans
side chair, with double wall back and sides of hand-wrapped core rattan.
The exhibit also features a diverse assortment of nature-inspired lighting from PALECEK’s line. Featured fixtures include the
Cicero
chandelier, made of hand-wrapped taupe rattan over a forged textured brass frame complemented by organically shaped frosted glass; the
Green Oaks
pendant, intricately woven with a core rattan frame and natural rope; the
Magnolia
pendant, featuring coco shell hand-cut into petal forms; and
Corsica
, a sphere-shaped pendant featuring hand-woven natural lampakanay rope wrapped over a powder-coated metal frame.
“Natural materials have always been the heart and soul of our interior furnishings and accessories,” said Andrew Palecek, chief creative officer of PALECEK. “We source plants like rattan, abaca, seagrass and lampakanay that grow abundantly in the tropics of Southeast Asia, as well as stone, fossils and shells found in large quantity throughout the region. From our earliest days, our furnishings have been made with eco-conscious materials, and we continuously seek new ways to lessen our impact on the environment."
Palecek’s roots date back to 1974, when Allan Palecek, a retired Air Force pilot, and his wife Nancy began importing hand-crafted rattan baskets from Asia. With an eye on sustainability and the goal to create functional works of art from natural fibers, they developed a network of master artisans and began introducing home accents.
“For more than half a century, we have been combining natural materials and centuries-old hand-crafting techniques with contemporary designs to create unique furnishings that bring timeless beauty and soul to every living space,” said Palecek. “For us, sourcing is everything. Finding the most sustainable, most interesting materials for a particular design takes a huge amount of time, travel, research and curiosity.”
