SPECIAL REPORT -- Fall/Winter 2020-2021 runways were filled with natural, soothing color combinations that include Peach Nougat, Almond Oil and Rose Tan -- a palette embraced by fashion-forward area rug manufacturers.

Those sophisticated and subtle shades are in a broad cross-section of design styles spanning geometric, tribal, traditional and contemporary motifs, and prove the soothing complement to interior design directions that focus on creating a calming and soothing sanctuary in the home.

The popular look includes natural materials, clean and simple profiles, and inviting furnishings designed to create a soothing at-home environment that serves as a foil to the crisis and uncertainty unfolding globally as the COVID crisis continues.

In fact, part of High Point Market's summer/fall 2020 Style Report showcases designer Rachel Cannon, whose Focus On Wellness/Quiet Rooms sought out furnishings with mental wellness in mind. "I searched for new pieces that would be Ideal for a quiet room," she said, about products sourced for their simple, classic lines in a palette of mostly ivory and creams that encourage a "clutter free" sensibility.

High Point Market's Summer/Fall 2020 Trend Report had two designers showcasing the creating calm design trend.

Likewise, interior designer Rachel Moriarty, another Style Spotter included in the summer/fall guide, focused on the Home Sanctuary design direction. "Moving forward we will be focused on creating home sanctuaries and havens. "With everyone at home at the same time we need to create moments throughout our home for the little luxuries like curling up with a good book, sipping a cup of tea or for a mindfulness practice ... A hanging chair, a plush chaise lounge, a cozy pillow are perfect examples of pieces that will help create sanctuary in your home."

Under foot, an area rug can set the tone for an entire room or just offer a soothing plush feel. Natural materials, subtle designs, and neutral and soft blush palettes offer a quieting finish to a design.

RugNews.com surveyed a broad range of area rug manufacturers, representing categories from hand-knotted to machine-made, to discover the latest designs that speak to the sanctuary at home trend. Below are our favorite area rugs, to be this Fall at High Point Market, and elsewhere, that speak to the trend.
