Big Lots Home Test Stores Open In 10 Locations

Bargains galore on cross-category furniture, home décor, sleep and more, with departments organized by room, and product categories – like rugs.

Big Lots opens 10 Big Lots Home test stores in locations serviced by its Columbus, OH distribution center.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Big Lots, Inc., one of America’s largest home discount retailers, is testing a new store concept devoted to cross-category home products. Branded Big Lots Home, the concept in currently being tested in 10 reformatted Big Lots locations, with grand openings slated for early Oct. 2023.

All 10 stores are supplied by the company’s Columbus, Ohio distribution center. Locations include Kokomo, Indiana; Georgetown and Louisville, Kentucky; Big Rapids and Sterling Heights MI; Ashtabula, Brunswick and Delaware, Ohio; and Aliquippa and Hermitage Pennsylvania.


The interior of Big Lots Home stores features vignettes, and a vast selection of cross-category home furnishings and home essentials.

Operating more than 1,420 stores in 48 states, as well as a best-in-class ecommerce platform with expanded fulfillment and delivery capabilities, the company's stated mission is to help customers "Live Big and Save Lots" by offering unique treasures and exceptional bargains on everything for their home, including furniture, seasonal decor, kitchenware, pet supplies, food items, laundry and cleaning essentials and more.

The new Big Lots Home is a one-stop shop for furniture, sleep, seasonal, home essentials and décor at bargain prices, up to 60 percent below other retailers, according to the company’s website. The new concept stores are easy to shop, presenting vignettes complete with furniture, decorative accessories, and area rugs. Signage highlight departments by room (kitchen, living room, etc.) and by product category such as rugs.


The Rug department at Big Lots Home is adjacent to its displays of decorative pillows and motion furniture.

The stores will not hold sales or offer coupons, with prices lowered only on clearance. A selection of products will be exclusively available at Big Lots Home in limited quantities rotating monthly with an eye toward drawing customers for repeat visits. Members of the retailer’s Big Rewards program will receive 5% off every purchase at Big Lot Home stores, which also offer special up to 24-month Buy Now Pay Later financing.
