SECAUCUS, N.J. -- New Jersey hand-knotted area rug specialist S&H Rugs will introduce fashion-forward collections and fresh designs to top selling lines at the upcoming Rug Show, which is being held for the first time at the Meadowlands Exposition Center, Sept. 14-16
"We have been participating in the Javitz Rug Show every year since its debut about 10 years ago," said Ori Wilbush, founder. "The last show in September 2019 was the best ever with actual heavy foot traffic which is rarely seen in a show dedicated to area rugs. We anticipate good foot traffic and already have a few appointments set up."
Despite The Rug Shows cancellation for the past three years due to the coronavirus pandemic, "S&H Rugs continued developing and searching for new and innovative colors, sizes, designs and textures to appeal to the current interior design trends and wishes," he continued.
S&H Rugs expects its new stone-washed area rugs, hand-knotted of pure wool and with zero pile, to be market hits.

Among the top new hand-knotted collections S&H Rugs expects to be popular at The Rug Show are its top-selling transitional lines, including its popular Angora Oushak collection, which offers the design, materials, dyes, turkish weave and texture of these iconic 19 Century rugs but reworked in today's sought after colors, including gray, denim blue, and charcoal black.
A perennial favorite at S&H Rugs is its Angora Oushake collection, which reworks classic motifs in contemporary palettes.
"Our artists keep on coming up with new ideas and developments in this line which is always easy to decorate with and highly sought after especially in the southern and midwest states," Wilbush said.
In S&H Rugs' modern and contemporary assortment, the company will introduce a new collection featuring Art Deco and Art Nouveau geometric designs but with today's sought-after colors. In addition, the rug maker has tweaked its rugs' fiber content to address to shifting consumer preference.

Another lineup anticipated to be a top look are the company's Vintage collection, which features original Persian pieces that are 50 to 80 years old stripped of their original bright dyes and colors such as navy and red, and transformed into soft orations that include shades such as salmon, coral, gray and ivory.
"We wash the pieces multiple times using different ingredients such as white vinegar, various teas and herbs and then sundry the rugs and shear them down to a very minimal pile height.
"These worn and distressed rugs look fantastic even with modern furniture settings and newly constructed kitchens with shiny marble floors giving it a homey and cozy feel," Wilbush said of the popularity of these rugs.
"With growing consumer demand we are now shifting the pile content in our production to all natural and organic high levels of lanolin shiny and soft hand-spun finer wools with no silk or plant-base silk mixed in."
REINVIGORATED NY AREA RUG EVENT
S&H Rugs grows its Art Deco series adding fresh geometrics crafted of natural dyed soft pure wool in a dense weave.
Wilbush anticipates that the 2022 New Jersey show will mark an important turning point for a reinvigorated New York rug event. "It will be nice to meet old friends and customers and make some new connections too. Much has changed in our industry since, and as far as colors, texture and designs and it will be very interesting for all to see the new developments under one roof and show right here at the center of it all."
For area rug merchants, New York remains the most important area to exhibit and meet at for countless of reasons. "It is home to most [Rug Show] exhibitors and the largest Oriental rug market of vendors, dealers, manufacturers, designers and wholesalers in the nation. Plus, NY is the fashion center and cultural hub of the entire continent," Wilbush continued. "Its importance far exceeds locations such as Atlanta,Las Vegas or High Point, which are lackluster compared to the New York-metro area, where you can find the largest up-to-date inventories of hand-knotted rugs from around the globe.

Wilbush is recommending that buyers with limited time to arrive in New York, or preferably New Jersey, where the special hotel rates for the show are half the normal price, on Tuesday, Sept. 13, to go and visit the last day of the Cover Connect show in Manhattan.
