LONDON -- Hand-knot rug atelier the Rug Company, known for its collaboration with renowned fashion and design icons, rolls out the limited-edition Masterpieces collection by American glass artist Dale Chihuly.

“Working with transparent materials and utilizing the power of light is so instrumental to my work that I was really surprised to see how the Rug Company was able to translate translucency in an opaque product,” Chihuly said of his first area rug designs.

Dale Chihuly's debut rug collection is inspired by his glasswork, and Rosette, shown, re-interprets blown glass rondels.

The debuting Masterpieces by Dale Chihuly collection from the Rug Company is inspired by the Tacoma, Washington, born artist's famed glassworks. The five Chihuly hand-knotted Tibetan wool and silk area rugs feature price points of $137 per square foot, $200 per square foot and $239 per square foot.

Taking inspiration from Dale Chihuly’s Macchia series, the new Pheasant rug from the Rug Company features a wing-like motif.

"I am so pleased with the five rug designs which are derived from my series in glass, including Persians, Cylinders and Macchia," the artist continued. "If you’re familiar with my work, you’ll notice the organic, irregular forms that people have come to know in the Rosette and Poplar rugs, as well as finer details, such as the glass thread pickup designs featured in the Cylinder and Harvest rugs."

The Harvest rug gives a nod to Dale Chihuly’s glasswork series Cylinders, with its soft white background and drawn threads of reds and golds.

Rug Company CEO James Seuss is hosting a special webinar entitled Design Conversations where he and Leslie Chihuly, CEO Chihuly Studio, discuss the inspiration behind the new Masterpieces collection. That event takes place on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. (PST) / 12 p.m. (EST) /6 p.m. (EU). To join the talk, sign up here.
