Archie Cherkezian obituary

Oriental rug industry veteran Archie Cherkezian died Friday, July 19 at his home.

 SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- Oriental rug industry veteran Archie Cherkezian died Friday, July 19 at his home, here. He was 82.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, Aug 6, 2005 at The Armenian Evangelical Church of New York, 152 East 34th Street, New York. The service will begin at noon. For further information, contact the church at 212-685-3177.

Mr. Cherkezian was a long-time executive of William Cherkezian & Sons. He was an enthusiastic supporter and tireless worker on behalf of The Oriental Rug Importers Association (ORIA).  He was instrumental in the founding of  Oriental Rug Magazine, the ORIA publication  (now called Area Magazine).

After he left the New York metropolitan area and moved to Scottsdale, he remained in close contact with ORIA and his long-time associates in the Oriental rug business.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The Armenian Evangelical Church of New York.
