LOLOEY UNVEILS CUTTING-EDGE KARIM RASHID COLLECTION AT BDNY

Karim Rashid's latest rug collection debuts at luxe Italian rug maker Loloey's booth at the design-driven boutique hotel show BDNY, where ABC Carpet & Home's executive Bill Ward (right) stepped in to take a closer look.

NEW YORK -- Luxury Italian rug atelier Loloey chose the hot boutique design BDNY show to debut its striking show-stopping collaboration with acclaimed contemporary designer Karim Rashid.

Karim Rashid (who has designed rug collections for Grund America, Lindstrom Rugs, Illulian, Oriental Weavers and Roubini Rugs) now brings his signature style to his latest "digipop" inflected series for Loloey, pushing the boundaries a bit harder with his latest work.

"The new rugs feature a faceted pattern that is an abstract representation of the way we perceive the 3D world." -- Karim Rashid, designer

"Beyond walking the fair, I am looking forward to seeing my new carpet designs for Loloey," said the New York-based Rashid, who was a keynote speaker at the annual fair held at the Jacob Javits Center from Nov. 12-13. "Loloey makes fantastic luxury hospitality carpets. The new rugs feature a faceted pattern that is an abstract representation of the way we perceive the 3D world that we live in. Available in a rectangular form or asymmetrical, organic shape, the crystalline textile adds new dimension to any space, enlivening the room with effulgent color and character."

Loloey, which also showcased a limited-edition collection of rugs designed by starchitect Daniel Libeskind at BDNY 2015, offers custom-made area rugs and carpets for for both residential and hospitality. Rashid, who built his reputation design home products for brands ranging from Bobble, and Umbra to luxury goods for Christofle, Alessi, Vondom, has become an increasingly sought out designer of hotels, restaurants and residential, with hospitality projects in Norway, Amsterdam, Rotterdam underway, as well as condominiums in Miami, New York City and Holland.

A detail of Karim Rashid's new collection with Italian label Loloey illustrates the depth of the design.

"The hospitality sector should focus on positive energy, heightened experiences, culture, design, and art," the designer said. "It is a unique temporary home that fulfills and creates new fantasies. Hotels, restaurants spas and other public spaces should be a haven to enjoy, relax, work, and engage in experiences that are memorable, unlike any anywhere else in the world.

"I want the hotel industry to embrace the global village and to create a cosmic sense of well-being in this millennium. Design and architecture will play an important role in intensifying this reality. It can provide and maintain our enjoyment of living and nurture a direct experience with the energy and modus of the time."
