PIER SHOW IN NEW YORK TO RUN PARALLEL
TO NEW YORK METRO MARKET EVENT

NEW YORK -- A new Oriental rug show is being planned for New York  Tuesday, Sept. 27 to  Friday, Sept. 30, 2005,  according to Dennis Dodds, the organizer of the event.

The NYICS will run concurrently with the second edition of the New York Metro Market, which is sponsored by the New York Metro Rug Alliance. The Metro Market takes place  Monday, Sept. 26 through Friday, Sept. 30 at various permanent showroom venues in New York and New Jersey.

The New York International Carpet Show (NYICS) will be held at Pier 94 on the Hudson River at 12th Avenue and West 53rd Street.

David Samad, chairman of the New York Metro Rug Alliance, applauded the Pier show, saying the parallel events will be synergistic. "The two shows running at the same time can only make both events stronger," he said.

" We all recognize that our mutual cooperation will make more importers and their diverse products available to buyers during their week in New York," Dodds noted.

Booth rents at the Pier Show will be approximately the same as that charged for temporary exhibit space at AmericasMart-Atlanta, according to Dodds. Most  booths will measure approximately 1,800 sq. ft.. A limited number of 900 sq. ft. spaces are also available. Approximately 36 vendors are expected to participate in the NYICS.

Pier 94 was selected as the market venue because there is convenient access, easy parking and load-in (no elevators) and a great deal of  flexible space, according to Dodds. Several other wholesale markets, including the NY Gift Market are held at Pier 94.

Several vendors have already expressed serious interest in the Pier show, according to Dodds.

Dodds is an architect,  writer  and collector of early Oriental rugs. In the late 70's he headed American operations for HALI Magazine. In 1986, he launched Carpets of Distinction, an advertising magazine within a magazine in Architectural Digest. He is secretary-general of the International Conference on Oriental Carpets (ICOC).
