International area rug manufacturers showcased their newest directional area rugs at the winter 2026 Heimtextil.

FRANKFURT, Germany -- Leading home textiles event Heimtextil 2026 showcased 3,000 exhibitors and 48,000 buyers from 148 countries, with area rug exhibitors presenting their newest products across three halls at the winter exhibition.

This year’s show continued to expand its ranks of area rug manufacturers as more and more international industry players choose to showcase their product at Heimtextil rather than the massive flooring expo DOMOTEX, which was held in January 2026 in Hannover and moved to a two-year cycle. In fact, for the 2026 Messe Frankfurt show, the area rug segment moved to the larger Halls 11.0, 11.1 and 12.0; and together with Hall 3.0, Carpets & Rugs covered four levels for the first time. In Hall 3.0, carpet exhibitors -- including Paulig, Otto Golze & Söhne, Theko and Tisca -- presented their collections as part of the Deco Team.

The 2026 lineup also included machine-woven heavyweights such as Balta, Merinos, Oriental Weavers and Ragolle housed in Hall 12.0. Hand-woven rugs were presented in Hall 11.0, and included brands such as Hafizia Arts & Craft, Heritage Overseas, Himalaya Concepts, Javi Home, Looms & Knots, The Rug Republic and Turquoise Mountain. Finally, Hall 11.1 featured joint stands from China and India, including the Carpet Export Promotion Council and the Handloom Export Promotion Council.

This year's show motto “Lead the Change” and 2026/27 Heimtextil theme, Craft is a Verb, illustrate the increasing interplay of technology and craft. The Craft is Verb exhibit showcased in Messe Frankfurt Hall 6.1 demonstrated how high-tech and craftsmanship need not be contradictory, but can work together to open up new creative perspectives.

The 2026 expo opened with the unveiling of renowned designer and architect Patricia Urquiola's interactive installation called 'among-all’, where materials and technologies merged to create a cutting-edge vision of the future of interior design. The presentation in Hall 3.0 included shaped area rugs, sculptures, hanging grids, and inflated figures.

Hall 12 which housed major international heavyweights, also featured a special installation dubbed Future Floor: innovations, know-how and carpet trends.

Heimtextil Carpets & Rugs, which encompassed established market leaders in the fields of machine- and hand-woven carpets, was spread across the sprawling Frankfurt Messe campus' Hall 3.0, Hall 11 and Hall 12. RugNews was on the ground, and the editors have put together a curated presentation of some of the most innovative, eye-catching and trend-forward looks on display at the 2026 event.
