DALLAS -- Industry veteran John Feizy, who founded Feizy Rugs more than 50 years ago, died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family, on July 13, 2025. Mr. Feizy is survived by his wife Janice, and their children Cameron and Leah, who remain active in Feizy Rugs.

"Feizy Rugs was never just a company—it is a family," said Cameron Feizy, company CEO. "My father spoke often of how deeply he cared for everyone involved in Feizy Rugs, and how grateful he was for their commitment and hard work. His wish was for all of us to persevere together through this difficult time.”

John Feizy was born in Tehran, Iran in 1942 and emigrated to the U.S. in 1962. He attended Central State University in Oklahoma where he met his wife Janice of 57 years. Feizy moved to Dallas in 1963 and began a small rug retail store carrying only fine and hand-knotted rugs. Following a family tradition of buying, selling and collecting Oriental rugs that spanned four generations, his goal was to expose the public to the beauty and art of the craft.

He founded Feizy Rugs in 1973 and celebrated the company's 50th anniversary two years ago. He oversaw the company's transformation from an importer of handmade rugs to a leading rug supplier of handmade and machine-made rugs with showrooms in Dallas, High Point, N.C., and Las Vegas.

Since Feizy Rugs’ earliest days, Mr. Feizy traveled to the weaving capitals of the world where he personally selected his inventory with a discerning eye, leading to a loyal clientele of interior designers. He soon leased space in the Dallas World Trade Center and began to deal exclusively with the trade. Recognizing the demand for unique programmed rugs, he expanded his operation to include rug designers in Dallas and overseas.

Feizy is the only American company to wholly own its own factory in Turkey called Covtex-Feizy. John was a pioneer in Turkey developing a factory there in 2000 after acquiring another facility in Romania and consolidating it into its Gaziantep operation. Indeed, John Feizy built a company which is now recognized as one of the largest manufacturers and innovators of fine rugs in the world. Offering distinctive designs in a wide range of styles and fibers, Feizy is renowned for producing the highest quality hand-knotted, hand-tufted and power-loomed rugs in the market today.

"John was more than the visionary behind Feizy Rugs—he was a father figure to so many of us," said Michael Riley, president. "His wisdom, warmth, and boundless dedication shaped the culture of our company and the lives of everyone who had the privilege to work alongside him.

"At this time, we ask our friends and colleagues to take a moment to reflect on John’s incredible accomplishments and know that to him, his absolute greatest accomplishment other than his family was being able to support so many other families both here and abroad," Riley said.
"That was the single most important function he believed Feizy Rugs' success provided. He supported thousands of businesses and families in India and China during his tenure -- he was extremely proud of that and had a heartfelt responsibility to take care of his factories and their people."

Services will be private and the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to Feed My Starving Children or Operation Kindness.
