RUGS DIRECT PROMOTES ADRIENNE WOODDELL TO DIRECTOR OF MERCHANDISING

Adrienne Wooddell has been named Director of Merchandising, a senior management position at e-commerce retailer Rugs Direct.

WINCHESTER, Va. -- Leading e-commerce area rug retailer Rugs Direct has announced the promotion of Adrienne Wooddell to the newly created position of director of merchandising, effective immediately.

In making the announcement, Rugs Direct CEO Chris Long, to whom Wooddell will report, and retiring executive vice president Bill Martin explained that Wooddell will assume all of the merchandising responsibilities previously handled by Martin, who leaves the company in mid-January, but will remain a part-time member of the management team (read full story).

Wooddell, who is approaching her 14th year with the company and served as merchandising manager prior to this promotion, told RugNews.com, "I started as a temp back then, and now here I am. It's scary, but also exciting; new and fun. I'm up for the challenge, and I'm excited to be part of Rugs Direct's new chapter. I've learned from the best -- and that's Bill."

Martin says Wooddell will be totally responsible for all of the retailer's merchandising functions. "She is replacing the part of my job where I interact with vendors, and will be their primary contact. For us, it's one of the most important things we do. Adrienne has moved up: she's now one of the key executives with Rugs Direct," he explained.

Rugs Direct offers area rugs, throw rugs and rug runners, with some 180,000 different SKUs available for purchase throughout North America on its website, www.RugsDirect.com, which receives over 45 million page views annually by consumers, home decorators and professional interior designers. The 20-year-old company was purchased earlier this year by private equity firm L2 Capital Partners of Devon, Pennsylvania.
