HIGH POINT -- Victoria MacKenzie-Childs and Richard Mackenzie-Childs, the designers formerly known by the collective name of Mackenzie Childs, re-emerged on the market scene last week at the High Point market.
The new company is called Victoria & Richard Emprise, the new works of artists Victoria and Richard MacKenzie-Childs. The V& R Collection is a signature group of rugs and lighting designs marketed by Peel & Co. of Metairie, LA.
The couple has not veered from the idiosyncratic style of living and designing they made famous in their previous incarnation, even though they have been absent from the market for some time.
Victoria and Richard MacKenzie-Childs are known for their crazy-quilt design style that extends to their own at-home lifestyle in a renovated ferryboat on the New York City piers.
Typical of their unique approach, the rugs and lamps combine bright colors and combinations of pattern that are layered and blended into intricate collages. The designs are a mix of styles that include traditional rug motifs, folkloric design elements, fanciful florals, and dots, stripes and plaids that all work together to create a signature look.
The seven Victoria & Richard Emprise rug designs are produced in China by Peel & Co. They are made in tufted, cut and loop, high/low constructions that include tufts of yarn that emerge from the base like random bits of shag.
The design details feature intricate construction techniques and multiple textures. The seven rug designs, Garden Patch, Road to Anywhere, Crazy Court, French Twist, Highland Fling, Pansy Rug and Party Time are available in four sizes, 3x5, 4x6, 5x8 and 8x10 and are all made of New Zealand wool. A 6x9 retails for $899
Peel & Co. manufactures and distribute rug lines for Habersham and Sarah Gayle Carter in addition to its own lines of Chinese rugs in Aubusson, needlepoint and sumack weaves.
