NEW YORK -- Carpet Art Deco infuses a chic French Canadian sensibility into its new fifth floor showroom at 295 Fifth Avenue (The Textile Building), unveiled during the New York Home Fashions Market, Sept. 11-14, 2017.
More akin to ready-to-wear showrooms than those typically found in home furnishings buildings, the converted space pays tribute to the Montreal-based rug maker's focus on fashion.

Representing the second and third generations of a family with a 100-year history in the carpet weaving industries, Fadi Melki, president, Michel Melki, vp of operations, and their father, Antoine Melki, were on hand to celebrate the showroom's grand opening on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Carpet Art Deco's new space is five times larger than its former 295 Fifth Ave. showroom, which the company had occupied for the past 10 years.
Area rugs are showcased on racks dramatically integrated into the Carpet Art Deco showroom's interior architecture.
Rugs are the stars set within the grid-like interior architecture of the new space, with collections sectioned by quality to be experienced from comfortable, clean-lined Italian couture seating. Anchored by a community space with all the élan of a boutique hotel lobby, the showroom's perimeter is dotted with conference tables and seating areas secluded for privacy. A dramatic free-form designer bathtub heralds entrance to the bath rug section.

"2017 marks the 10-year anniversary of Carpet Art Deco's presence in New York at 295 Fifth, and 20 years in the U.S. market. What better way to celebrate than to unveil an expanded, trendy, modern, and elegant showroom that is five times the size of the original," said Tom Waldron, Vice President of Sales - U.S. Market, adding, "It is indicative of our commitment to and investment in the U.S. market."

"At this market, Carpet Art Deco is introducing 1 million point wool and viscose area rugs, while maintaining our dominance in microfiber and polypropylene," Waldron continued. In addition to displaying existing product offerings, the company showcased expanded collections of its microfiber shags, cut-pile construction and scatter rugs.
Area rugs are displayed by collection and style on a pull-out tracking system complementing the showroom's interior design.
Based on customer demand, utility product lines were increased for the New York Market, and Carpet Art Deco showed new bath items in microfiber and cotton. The company also grew its natural fiber assortment in room-sized rugs and cotton, Waldron said, noting, "Carpet Art Deco is the leading area rug manufacturer in Canada and among the top five in North America. We wanted this showroom to capture the spirit of our company and our brand."

Indeed, the company's high design belies the sharp price points of its primarily machine-made area and accent rugs with the bulk of sales coming from big-volume retailers. "Our design specialists travel the world hunting for new colors, fibers, textures and constructions to ensure our carpets are always on-trend," Waldron explained. In the new Fifth Avenue setting, the rugs were right at home with the showroom's upscale interior furnishings.
