NEW YORK -- Better Trends, a new rug vendor specializing in value-priced braided rugs and accessories, made its debut at the Fall New York Home Fashions Market.

About 70% of the line is rugs, and 30% is related accessories such as chair covers and baskets, according to Evan Couri, sales manager. The company offers both flat-weave and tubular braids.

Evan Couri is a son of Ron Couri, president of Couristan. As a member of a venerable carpet and rug family, it's not surprising that he has become a part of the industry. What is surprising, however, is that he has chosen the braided rug category. But the young Couri has his eyes on the future.

"We're betting on a big comeback for the braided category," said Couri. "We have the right price and the right looks."

The vertically-integrated manufacturing facility is located in India. Better Trends  now has approximately 100 high speed braid machines with a capacity of 25,000 sq. ft. per day. Retail price range is approximately $9.99 in 21x34 inch size to $14.99 for wool braids in 21x34-inch size.

Better Trends offers rugs from scatter sizes up to 10-ft. x 14-ft. size. Traditional oval and modern rectangular rugs are available.

Rugs are shipped direct to stores on a container basis and also drop-shipped from the company's 5,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Little Ferry, NJ.

The products are made of a wide range of fibers, including cotton, chenilles, polypropylene, linen, wool, jute and viscose.

Parent company is Pan Overseas, located in Panipat, India. Aashish Vij, who is based in India,  is president of Better Trends and director of marketing of Pan Overseas. U.S.-based executives include Rahul Vij, vice president, and Evan Couri.

Pan Overseas has been in business since 1974 and produces bath rugs, bedspreads and other home textiles.
