09042013 Dover Rug & Home will Host Several Events this Fall

DOVER RUG & HOME WILL HOST
AUTHOR QAIS AKBAR OMAR  

NATICK, MA – Dover Rug & Home will host author Qais Akbar Omar, the Afghan writer and rug specialist at an in-store presentation Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event is part of  several programs that will offer attendees the opportunity to learn about the culture, history, and tradition of fine rug making.

 Omar is the author of the recently published memoir, A Fort of Nine Towers and owner of a family carpet business in Kabul, Afghanistan. He will tell the story of living through a brutal civil war and Taliban rule which is featured in  A Fort of Nine Towers.  With the help of pictures of the fort of nine towers and other sites mentioned in the book, Omar will explain why it is important for Americans to understand Afghanistan’s rich culture, history, and traditions. Autographed copies of his book will be available for purchase.   

The presentation and book signing will take place at Dover Rug & Home, 721 Worcester Rd., Natik, MA.  The event is free but pre-registration is required. To register, click here

The Colors of India- A Celebration of Culture and the Art of Rug Making will take place Saturday, September 28, Tuesday, October 1 and Thursday, October 3, 2013. The event is presented as part of Boston’s first semi-annual Artweek celebration.

All guests will receive free rug appraisals, compliments of the sponsor, Dover Rug & Home; a $100 Dover Rug & Home gift certificate good towards a purchase of $1,000 or more, and a chance to win a hand-knotted rug. 

Colors of India will take place at the American Islamic Congress, 38 Newbury Street , Boston, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The event is free but pre-registration is required. To register, click here.  Colors of India will include traditional Indian food, beverages and music.    

On Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20, Dover Rug & Home will present The Art of Rug Weaving – A Rug-Making Journey, from noon to 5 p.m. at Dover Rug & Home,  721 Worcester Rd. , Natik, MA.  

The event, part of Natick Open Art Studios (NOAS), will demonstrate live weaving techniques as well as learn from experts the “stories” behind some unusual antique and oriental rugs. The event will include the video “The Colors of India - A rug making journey” and guests are encouraged to bring in their oriental rug to receive a free appraisal. All guests receive a $100 gift certificate toward a purchase of $1,000 or more.  This event is free and open to the public.
