ATLANTIC CITY, NJ -- David Mink, Jr. has been elected chief executive officer of the Kenneth Mink Co. He formerly held the post of president. He succeeds his father, David Mink, Sr., who has held the ceo post for over 20 years.
Fred Mink, brother of David Mink, Sr., was elected president of the company.
The Mink Co. operates the rug departments in Macy's stores nationwide under a license agreement.
The promotion was announced at the company's second annual management meeting held July 6 to 9 at the Borgata Hotel & Casino here. More than 40 sales and operations managers from across the country attended the planning and team-building event.
David Mink, Sr., will no longer lead day-to-day operations, but has assumed new duties as director and advisor.
"I remain very involved in new projects, vendor relationships, and the financial health of the company," said David Mink, Sr.
The management shift is part of a transition which has been taking place for the past three years, according to the senior Mink. "After we were named as sole rug department operator for Macy's stores in 2008, I decided the younger team was necessary to run this difficult, far-flung business," he explained. "The day-to-day business will be handled by David Jr. and his team."
Key members of the Mink team are Patty Huang, who heads marketing; Richard Kennedy, head of stores and Ted Evans, who runs sales and operations.
“We have an outstanding group of professionals working hard to run and grow this business,†said David. “This is by far the best team I have ever worked with.â€
One highlight of the meeting was the Mink version of Celebrity Apprentice, called Rug-lebrity Apprentice. The group was broken into four teams and challenged to develop a project for sales growth. The results were both compelling and hilarious, according to Mink. The winning team was whisked away to a celebrity spa treatment at the Borgada.
Rug people wearing Rugs. How could we resist? The Mink Rug-lebrity Apprentice was judged by Macy's "exec" Terry Ruglund (Richard Kennedy), left; "the Donald" Ted Evans, center, and "Ivanka" Patty Huang, right.
And a great time was had by all!
