LONDON -- A rare Picasso tapestry will be featured at an auction of Picasso Editions prints, ceramics and tapestries at Bonham's auction house Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011.

One of the current highlights of the sale is Le Baiser, a large wool tapestry estimated to bring £6,000 to 8,000 ($8,676 to $11,568).  It was executed in an edition of  20 in 1979-80 by Marigold Enterprises Ltd.  Picasso, along with Leger, Miro and Dufy, was among the first modern artists to allow their designs to be translated into tapestries. 

As one of the most experimental artists of the 20^th Century, Picasso also turned to pottery and printmaking with as much passion as he did painting. 

There are a wide range of ceramics consigned for this sale including the decorated jug with a face, Femme du barbu, £5,000 to £7,000 ($7,230 to $10,122), a black and white plate, Joueur de flûte et chèvre, £1,200 to £1,800 ($1,735 to $2,602) and the broad dish, Visage dans un ovale, £2,000 to £3,000 ($2,892 to $4,338). 

Other highlights of the sale include two prints: La Corrida (1956), a scene of one of Picasso’s favored subjects – the bull fight – and has a pre-sale estimate of £10,000 to £15,000 ($14,460 to $21,690).  A color aquatint entitled Nature morte au Crâne is also expected to sell for £10,000 to £15,000 ($14,460 to $21,690).
