MEDINA, Ohio -- The longtime family-owned local business, National Carpet Mill Outlet, has expanded to a new location, and has renamed their newly opened 150,000-square-foot Medina superstore National Design Mart.
Operated by the King family, the all-new National Design Mart is the combination of their two Medina stores, National Carpet Mill Outlet and National Granite Luxuries.
The superstore is unusual in the United States because it offers one-stop shopping for an expansive variety of soft and hard surface flooring, area rugs, countertops, cabinets, home décor and hardware. Typically, this vast variety of offerings can be found only in numerous separate retail stores and other businesses like installation, design consulting and financing.
"There's really no place exactly like it in the country," says Ryan King, co-owner, who along with his siblings, grew up working in the National Carpet Mill Outlet in Medina.
Local Superstore, Not a Big Box

What is additionally unusual is that National Design Mart is a local enterprise with a long retail history in northeast Ohio. Dennis King, whose children Chris and Ryan King and Laura McCandless now operate the family's businesses, founded the original National Carpet Mill Outlet in 1998 and has been in the flooring and home décor industry more than four decades. King began his first business on Kenmore Boulevard in Akron selling carpet and sewing specially-embroidered mats and carpets, including one created especially for the White House.

National Design Mart's area rugs are from O.W. Sphinx, Custom Rugs, and include an exclusive Christopher Lawrence line. The over 2700 carpet choices are from Mohawk, Shaw, Mohawk Smartstrand Carpet, Bliss and more.
More than 30 hardwood styles from Bruce, Mannington, Mohawk, Armstrong, Anderson, Virginia Vintage, Homerwood and others are available, plus over 90 laminate floor brands including Quick-Step, Armstrong, and Mohawk.
