YORK - The gap between fashion and home design disappeared today when 90
Oushak rugs from Safavieh completely lined every inch of floor- and wall
space at the Tory Burch fall 2015 fashion show held in conjunction with
New York Fashion Week.
Burch
describes the collection as "Marrakech meets Chelsea." And with looks
she says are inspired by London bohemia, the designer wowed invited
guests with fabrics bearing beautifully crafted embellishments, garments
layering texture upon texture, purses from small saddlebags to oversize
carpetbags, studded boots with tribal designs and more.

The immense venue for Tory Burch's New York Fashion Week show
required 90 Safavieh rugs to cover floors and walls.

"Our
rugs enveloped the entire space to create a tent-like ambience. They
were layered across the runway, under guest seats and on the stage set
from which the models entered," explained Darioush Yaraghi, Safavieh
vice president. He said set designers hired by Burch contacted Safavieh
Home Furnishings' Broadway store early in the planning stages for the
show.

"They
chose our Oushak collection for its classic but updated nomadic look,
and selected the line because its pale color palette would not fight the
bold fabrics and colors of the collection."
Sizes of
the Oushaks borrowed for the show ranged from runners and 4x6 rugs to
10x14s and 12x16s. "We don't have 90 different designs in the
collection, but almost every one of them was represented, many in
multiple color ways," Yaraghi said.
Many
designs in the new Tory Burch collection feature patterns that
illustrate the close connection between current trends in home
furnishings and women's wear. Motifs borrowed from nomadic carpets and
ikat textiles are evident, and counter any predictions that the
popularity of Bohemian chic home decor is waning.
