PROPRIETARY 'INDIA KNOT' CONSTRUCTION
TO BE SHOWN AT SURFACES EXPO
BHADOHI, INDIA -- A proprietary "Indian Knot" construction has been developed for the Indian rug industry. The "Indian Knot" uses a modification of hand-loomed construction to achieve the look of hand knotted rugs. The first samples of rugs using this technique will be shown at Surfaces in Las Vegas, Feb. 3 to 5.
The Indian Knot branded carpet is being introduced at the Surfaces Floor Covering Expo by Bholanath International Ltd., based in Varanasi, India. Bholanath is the first licensee of the construction. The company will show Indian Knot rugs booth at the Indian Carpet Export Promotional Council booth at Surfaces (6728) in Las Vegas, Feb. 3 to 5.

"The beauty of this new hand-weave is that on one side, it shows pile or loop pile, whereas on the back of same carpet, it gives impression of herringbone pattern, like a chain stitch," said Bholanath Baranwal of Bholanath International.
The development of the Indian Knot is part of an ongoing research program at the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology here, according to Dr. K. K. Goswami, a professor at the IICT and P.K. Bhar, research scholar at the IICT.
The India Knot is being patented and trademarked through the Indian Patent Office. It is being licensed for use by the IICT for Indian rug and carpet manufacturers.
Anyone is eligible to introduce India Knot as a Licensee of IICT. India knot is formed in a different technique and is a new concept. In explaining the technique, Goswari noted that the process adapts an existing hand loom with two sets of warp yarns. By altering the structure of hand-loomed carpet, the resulting carpet achieves the look of a hand knotted carpet, he indicated.
