INDUSTRY VET EDDIE WATTS
DIES AT AGE 73
PENDERGRASS, GA -- Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 22 for industry veteran Edward Earl "Eddie" Watts. He died Friday, Feb. 19 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after suffering a heart attack. He was 73.
He was known and admired throughout the rug and floor covering industry as a "larger than life" character. Throughout his career, he was known for serving as a mentor to many people in the early stages of their careers.
Watts spent over 40 years in the floor covering industry, starting at Callaway Mills. He spent over 25 years as a buyer for Davidson's (later Macy's), an iconic Atlanta department store. He was one of the first US buyers to travel to China for rugs.
He also worked at Modern Age Furniture in South Florida, Hayne’s Furniture of Virginia Beach, VA and Klingman’s, of Grand Rapids, MI.
Eddie Watts was born Feb. 2, 1937 to the late Lonnie and Annie Langford Watts. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Watts.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Watts; daughter and son in law Janet and Michael Stanick; sons and daughters-in-law Ed and Wanda Watts, Randy and Rona Watts, Glenn and Debra Watts; 11 grandchildren; brother Harold Watts; six stepchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Continuing the family tradition in the floor covering industry, Eddie Watts' son, Randy Watts, is an employee of Trans-Ocean Imports.
