CAPEL LAUNCHES FIRST ANTHONY BARATTA LICENSED RUG DESIGNS AT HIGH POINT MARKET

Capel Rugs and interior designer Anthony Baratta introduce a creative mix of hand tufted (Square Trellis, pictured), braided and indoor-outdoor designs.

TROY, NC -- Capel Rugs is introducing the first designs from its major new licensing partnership with interior designer Anthony Baratta at the October 14-18 High Point Market.

Baratta will be available for a meet-and-greet with retailers during a kickoff party for his new collection being held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15 in the Capel showroom at Market Square.

Introductions include a creative mix of indoor/outdoor, braided and hand tufted designs with Americana-inspired themes in a bold, bright palette.

Stars & Stripes is from Capel's new Anthony Baratta indoor-outdoor collection.

The inaugural designs include a collection of five loop-pile rugs made in China of 100% olefin yarns. Part of the Capel Anywhere line of indoor-outdoor rugs, these designs feature five distinct American-themed patterns: Compass Quilt, in beige; Flags, in multi; Flower Trellis, in light blue; Stars & Stripes, in ivory; and Nautical Grid, in ocean blue and ivory. A 5' x 8' rug may retail for $349.

The Anthony Baratta  launch also features a collection of hand tufted designs made in India. The patterns include Square Trellis, a geometric design available in five colorways (gray, light blue, navy, cream and mushroom) composed of 90% wool and 10% viscose; and Compass Key, with two colorways (storm and admiral) in 70% wool and 30% viscose.  A 5' x 8' may retail for $449.

"Tony is well known for his clever combinations of materials, colors and textures," said Cameron Capel, vice president of national accounts for Capel Rugs. "His designs are sporty, upbeat and fun, with distinctive nautical, cottage and resort themes drawn from his custom work for mansions in elite spots ranging from Newport and Cape Cod to Long Island and the Adirondacks."

Baratta founded the interior design firm of Diamond Baratta Design in 1994 with partner Bill Diamond. Together, the two designers developed a unique creative language that is an eclectic balance between pattern, color, history, luxury and modernity.

In April of 2016, Baratta launched his first licensed furnishings collection with Thomasville Furniture. Marketed as Anthony Baratta for Thomasville, the collection is an updated take on East Coast chic, featuring soft, shapely upholstery and clean-lined wood furnishings. At the October market, several of Baratta's new rugs for Capel will be available for viewing in Thomasville's new Market Square showroom (Space 520) as well as the Capel showroom (also located in Market Square, Space 112), where the entire Baratta rug line will be featured.

At market, Capel Rugs also is expanding two of its other popular licensed collections: Genevieve Gorder and WILLIAMSBURG, including:

For Genevieve Gorder, a new hand tufted design called Flower Pop is being introduced. Inspired by a popular fabric collection Gorder created for P/Kaufmann, Flower Pop sports a bold, overscaled floral pattern. Made in India of 90% wool and 10% viscose, the new design features a high-low texture created with micropoint loop pile yarns. Four colorways are available:  ice, peacock, navy and chocolate. A 5' x 8' may retail for $649.

For Williamsburg: A new pattern called Bamboo Trellis is being added to the Finesse collection of indoor-outdoor rugs. Bamboo Trellis' striking geometric design captures the unique feeling of the historic Colonial Williamsburg Gardens. Five colorways are available:  Noir, spa, capri blue, navy and barley. A 5' x 8' may retail for $149.

In addition, the Williamsburg collection also is adding Everhard Damask, a lovely floral design inspired by vintage Williamsburg fabrics.

Capel's own line of fashion-forward rugs is also adding an assortment of new patterns and constructions in the latest on-trend colors this October, including:
Orbit, which is made in India of 100% wool using loop pile yarns, in a swirl-shaped design offered in three colorways:  green, grey and blue. A 5' x 8' rug may retail for $349.

Spencer is made in Holland of 100% New Zealand wool on Axminister looms and features three traditional-styled patterns, each in two colorways:  Crown, in charcoal and mushroom; Keshan, in navy and cream; and Panel, in oyster and multi. A 5'3" x 7'6" rug may retail for $649.

"This has been a difficult summer for many retailers because of the terrible damage and disruption that has been caused by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma," said Cameron Capel. "The aftermath of that destruction may lead some of our customers to stay home instead of coming to market. But for those who can make it, we'll have a great assortment of designs to share that are packed with style and value. We're especially excited to share our new program with Anthony Baratta, since his design aesthetic is a perfect fit with the rich heritage of our 100-year-old company."
