LAS VEGAS MARKET: A WAVE OF HOT PRODUCTS & BRAVE BUYERS, PART 1

LAS VEGAS -- Despite record-breaking summer temps throughout much of the country, area rug buyers braved the heat to check out hot new introductions and take selfies with industry celebrities. And while summer markets are typically slower than the winter counterparts, there was plenty of news (and entertainment) at Las Vegas Market,  held from July 29-Aug. 2.

According to many show participants, while not as busy as the winter edition, this summer's attendance was comparable to last July's, and pulled in enough buyers to make the event worthwhile.

In fact, from a buyer's perspective, summer market at the World Market Center offered not only the opportunity to browse many never-seen-before area rug designs and collections -- a few of which included brand-new licensing programs -- but also afforded the opportunity to mingle with celebrity designers new to the rug category.

One of the hottest design events was hosted by Karastan, which debuted its new Scott Living collection -- a collaboration with the Scott brothers of HGTV's Property Brothers series. Buyers queued up for a selfie with the twin stars, who were busy taking snaps with fans for an hour.

Kerrie Kelly, the award-winning interior designer, hosted a seminar followed by a meet and greet at the Feizy showroom, where devotees stopped by to toast the designer and check out her growing assortment of area rugs.

KAS Rugs also had a fun shindig, with a surf scene (including a buff surfer) showcasing the company's debuting beach-y Hang Ten collection. Jaipur Living hosted a Nikki Chu event which drew in market-goers wanting to see and hear what's hot from the designer, and Loloi's boho maven Justina Blakeney, also was on hand to walk Vegas shoppers through her three new collections as well.

Below, RugNews.com braves the Las Vegas heat to bring you a roundup of popular new area rugs hitting the market -- and the people and parties that made them hits. In Part 1, we cover area rug exhibitors from Amer Rugs to KAS, and the summer fun continues in Part 2, where we tour showrooms from Loloi Rugs to Trans-Ocean by Liora Manne.

The two-million-point machine-made rugs feature a mosaic-like carved effect in abstract designs and erased looks, crafted of viscose and acrylic yarn. Other contemporary collections that won buyers over in Vegas included the hand-knotted Majestic and Zenith collections, and Synergy shown above.

While machine-mades have been a top performer in 2018 for Feizy, hand-knots are strong sellers at Las Vegas Market, said Cameron Feizy. "In Vegas we see a lot of hand-knotted or higher-end demand from the designers." He noted that Feizy introduced the new Cadiz, a two million point machine-made range, to bridge the divide between machine-mades and hand-knots. In addition, the Dallas based company added a lower priced hand-knotted collection (Eros) crafted in a lower stitch count of wool and viscose with an MSRP of $100 per square foot.

"We also added four new designs in Dahlia, which is handmade of all wool -- and it is a collection that has been performing really well for us in the past five years. It is one of our top selling collections by a long shot. The company's all wool hand-knots also performed well.

Feizy's new Cadiz is the company's first 2 million point machine-made rug, and it is bridging the gap between hand-knot and machine-made for retailers and designers.
