Scott Group Studio Debut's Latest Hokanson Collections at New D&D Building Showroom

SCOTT GROUP STUDIO DEBUT'S LATEST HOKANSON COLLECTIONS AT NEW D&D BUILDING SHOWROOM

Larry Hokanson creates Istorii, a new collection under Scott Group's high-end Hokanson label, on show at the growing carpet maker's new D&D Building showroom.

NEW YORK -- Scott Group Studio debuts the latest Hokanson collections, Istorii, designed by Larry Hokanson, and Elements, in its new D&D Building showroom (suite 411) just in time for the DDB Spring Market on Wednesday, May 24.

Istorii, an eight-piece collection inspired by Larry Hokanson's interest in Russian history and culture, is handmade in Nepal using traditional carpet making methods of hand-carding, spinning, dyeing and knotting. Larry Hokanson founded his eponymous rug studio in 1987, selling the business to Scott Group in 2017.

"Typically, Hokanson hasn't presented rugs in collection format and Larry worked on each rug individually with an in-house designer -- Istorii is only Hokanson's third full collection, following their nature and organic materials series, Nascent," said Libby Ferin, director of marketing and brand experience for Scott Group Studio. "Istorii is especially personal, as it was completely designed by Larry, and considered a retrospective of his life's work. He was inspired by looking back at his years in design, extensive travels and lifelong immersion in Russian history and culture."

Also, new for the Design & Decoration Building's Spring Market is the Elements collection of hand-knotted area rugs, based the visual wonders the universe.

Scott Group, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with nine showrooms throughout the U.S., acquired Hokanson to gain a toehold into the high-end residential and commercial design sector. Prior to the purchase, Scott Group had been exclusively designing and producing luxury carpets and rugs for the aviation and architectural design market. The company also recently purchased PWV Studios, a boutique designer and builder of hand-tufted wool carpets and rugs based in Grand Rapids.

Prior to the acquisition, Hokanson had its own showroom in the D&D while Scott Group Custom Carpets occupied a separate space in the city. Now, Scott Group Studio has a new showroom at the D&D Building, housing all three of the company's brands (Scott Group Custom Carpets, Hokanson and the recently acquired PWV Studios) together under one umbrella.

"The decision to move to the D&D was very purposeful and was the perfect opportunity to think of our new, combined space as more than just a showroom," Ferin said. "Our goal was to create a destination and an experience. As we began to integrate our brands, we put a lot of thought into how the design community would engage in the new space, and built it with those principles in mind. What resulted is an all-encompassing space with a modern floor-plan and organized setting that provides a "one stop shop" for those designers who seek high-end and design-forward materials for their projects. It's the perfect arena to display the distinct aspects of the three brands, including bespoke hand-knotted, hand-tufted, machine-tufted and woven carpets."
