01042013 AmericasMart Partners with Verizon to Enhance Wireless Coverage

1/3/2013

AMERICASMART PARTNERS WITH VERIZON
FOR FULL WIRELESS COVERAGE

ATLANTA – AmericasMart Atlanta has partnered with Verizon Wireless to create a fully functional wireless communications environment spanning its entire facility of more than seven million sq. ft., according to Jeffrey Portman, president and chief operating officer of AMC, Inc., the mart's parent company.

Installation is now complete on a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) that will deliver improved wireless coverage, capacity and data speeds for Verizon Wireless customers on every floor, in every showroom and exhibit hall across the three-building AmericasMart campus.

Additionally, Verizon Wireless products and services will be available for purchase onsite starting with the January 2013 markets.

“The Verizon Wireless partnership achieves a major milestone in AmericasMart’s mission to create optimal business advantages for all customers,” said Portman.

“This takes us into a new universe of opportunities powered by technology innovations that will reshape how business is done,” Portman added.  “We are working on several opportunities to enhance the AmericasMart market experience, plus other new advancements to come, all resulting from this strategic technology investment.”

The DAS includes separate antenna locations mounted throughout the campus to boost network strength and capacity. In addition to ensuring calls are successfully connected, the DAS allows smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices to access the Internet, send text messages and quickly share photos and videos to social networking sites.

Coverage encompasses all AmericasMart and Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart spaces to deliver wireless transmission in all environments, including interior corridors, loading docks and areas shielded by marble and stone wall and floor construction.

Verizon Wireless customers at the Markets will gain the additional advantage of accessing the 4G network via a variety of Verizon-powered devices. These attendees will be able to surf the Web, stream live music and video and stay in touch with business associates at speeds up to 10 times faster than before.

“We are pleased to work with AmericasMart to deploy this type of DAS network, which will help ensure our customers have the best wireless experience on our 3G and 4G LTE networks when attending the January Markets and beyond,” said Jonathan LeCompte, president, Georgia/Alabama region for Verizon Wireless.

The Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, Jan. 9 to Jan. 16 and The Atlanta International Area Rug Market featuring the National Oriental Rug Show (NORS), Jan. 10 to Jan. 13 at AmericasMart.  January market buyers and sellers should expect to experience Verizon Wireless service across the AmericasMart campus.

Headquartered in Basking Ridge, NJ, Verizon Wireless serves nearly 96 million retail customers, including 90.4 million retail postpaid customers.  With more than 75,000 employees nationwide, Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone.
