ATLANTA / LAS VEGAS -- In Part 2 of the Rug Buyers' Essential Guide to Summer Markets, RugNews.com continues to feature the newest area rug styles -- this time with a focus on updated traditional motifs not to be missed by summer shoppers.

Though area rug vendors anticipate slower traffic at July markets, they still present plenty of never seen before area rug designs, novel constructions and amped up values for retail buyers and designers braving the heat at the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, from July 11-18, and Las Vegas Market, July 30-Aug. 3.

"Our buyers, more than anything else, are on the hunt for trends and the new and different products that will make them stand out. They're also looking for retail solutions, particularly items that will update their assortments without a huge investment," said Reza Momeni, president and CEO of Momeni. "Just as retailers are looking for trends and standouts, designers are looking for those products that will wow their clients, keep them engaged and make their homes extra special."

Added Satya Tiwari, president of Surya, "Customers are looking for trendy updated traditional rugs and coordinating, eclectic accessories. They want sophisticated, muted color palettes. In addition, they want innovation at a great price -- new textures, techniques, and materials that have high perceived value, but do not cost a fortune."

LOLOI
 
Loloi's new Everly collection features the vintage look in couture colors and overscale medallions expected to be so popular at July markets.
 
Loloi offers summer market shoppers in Atlanta and Las Vegas plenty of new designs and six premiering collections. The vintage-inspired Everson range features reworked traditional designs, hooked of 100 percent wool in India. New Legacy collection designs feature refined classic patterns and soft color palettes. Hand knotted in India of 100 percent wool, Legacy rugs are deliberately distressed and sheared down to an extra low pile, creating a patina usually only imparted through decades of wear. The hand-crafted Odyssey collection combines relaxed linear patterns with an earthy color palette. Rugs are hand knotted of wool and viscose from bamboo by master artisans in India. Loloi's Petra collection features a sophisticated shag look in subdued colors. Machine-made of acrylic and polyester, it is soft but also made for durability.
 
Fresh and informal, the Remy range of round area rugs marries textured designs and bold colors. Hooked of 100 percent wool, the 3-foot round rugs are finished with a tasseled fringe. Lastly, the new Vaughn collection is hand-loomed of 100 percent wool in India in a refined yet casual look with its subtle tonal striations and rich depth and dimension. LR RESOURCES
 
The Gala collection by LR Resources premieres at the Atlanta International Rug Market this summer in 16-color designs.

 

LR Resources introduces several new must-see lines at summer markets, including the debuting Gala collection. Mike Thompson, vice president of sales and general manager of L. R. Resources says Gala's eight updated classic designs are machine woven on a 16-color loom. The rugs are made of heatset polypropylene with a cotton back at a retail of $299 retail in 5x7'9". 

LR Resources also showcases the new Karma collection, hand-tufted of high density wool using an abrash technique in the field with the pattern rendered in a tight loop. Each of the five colorways incorporates rich colors and lighter tones ($299). Thompson expects the value price point and high end style to appeal to summer market shoppers.

Also new: the Pin Dot collection, hand-tufted in wool in four colorways, all on off-white grounds ($299); Classic Jute, an expansion of the company's extensive natural fiber offerings is made with 100 percent jute with a cotton warp;  and the Lavish collection, a tufted loop pile collection in designs featuring bright colors and a folk art feel. The new Inside Out collection of reversible indoor/outdoor rugs has a high end braided look at $249. AmericasMart, 1-4-F9. 


LINON/POWELL
 
The new Illusion collection from Linon/Powell debuts at summer markets showcasing abstract designs in a new cross-woven construction.

 

Linon/Powell introduces an all-new construction in its Illusions collection to be unveiled at summer markets. The rugs are cross woven with a blend of polyester and nylon in abstract contemporary designs. "The yarns are spaces dyed presenting five different shades per color, with 25 total colors in the rugs," says Steve Mazarakis, vice president, noting that the cross-weave creates creates a small fringe for a hand knotted look at an affordable price of $249.00 for a 5x8. 

Linon will also showcase the Chenille High-Low collection featuring eclectic designs that combine a woven microfiber chenille base with a high pile pattern motif worked in microfiber polyester ($249). The high-low Evolution collection is machine woven of microfiber polyester pile in both vintage and transitional patterns with unique color variations ($249), and Linon will also offer first-quality factory select area rugs in a new ongoing program with sizes 2x3 to 9x12 in fully finished surged and bound rugs. AmericasMart, 1-6-G4. MOMENI
 
Momeni's new machine-made Isabella collection features a soft, feminine look in eight debuting designs.

Momeni showcases two collections that recast traditional motifs in modern color combinations (read full story) for summer shoppers. Isabella tweaks traditional motifs with a delicate, feminine edge in eight designs featuring soft pastel colorways. The range is machine-made from 100 percent polyester, with a zero pile. In contrast, the Jewel collection updates traditional patterns with rich tones contrasted against deep shades of charcoal and denim. Vintage-styled Jewel is machine-made of 100 percent polypropylene with a zero pile, but with the look and feel of a handmade rug.
 
Momeni will also showcase the Charlotte collection at summer markets.  Machine made of polypropylene that has been textured with a high-low effect, the line includes five transitional designs in a subtle palette. AmericasMart, 1-4-B2. Las Vegas Market, B425.

NOURISON
 
Nourison grows the glamorous Aldora collection (shown, ALD13) with this fringed damask design hand-knotted in a bamboo-extruded silk-like blend. 

Nourison offers a broad range of cool new looks for Atlanta and Las Vegas market shoppers brave enough to endure the summer heat. The softly colored and antique-inspired Aldora collection adds several new hand-knotted designs including one in an opal colorway and another in royal blues. The new hand-knotted Ellora collection features variegated lines of color to create sophisticated transitional designs with appealing texture and an elegant, soft palette. 
 
The power-loomed Maxell collection, with its ombre effects and dramatic, almost 3-dimensional polyester designs, adds the painterly MAE13 in ivory and teal color combination. Also being showcased at market is the super-soft Moroccan Shag collection featuring classic tribal patterns with twisted fringe and a soft shag pile. AmericasMart, 1-3-F2. NULOOM RUGS
 
Nuloom adds several new updated classical designs for Las Vegas Market, including Danielle from the new Veronica collection.

Nuloom will debut three new collections spanning mega trends from abstract art rugs to reworked classics at the upcoming Las Vegas Market, which runs from July 30-Aug. 3. The Marina collection of traditional designs done in lively color combinations is crafted in Egypt of 100 percent polypropylene. A 5x8 will retail for $199.
 
The Veronica collection of both bold graphic looks and updated traditional styles are power loomed in Turkey of polyester, with a suggested retail price of $219 in 5x8. Finally, Atlantic, a range of high-low simple designs, is also power-loomed in Turkey of 100 percent polypropylene. A 5x8 will retail for $199. Las Vegas Market, A406.
 
ORIENTAL WEAVERS
 
Oriental Weavers showcases the aptly named Bohemian collection imagined in bright colors for Atlanta and Las Vegas markets shoppers.
 
Oriental Weavers' vibrant Bohemian collection recasts familiar global, eclectic motifs in a reimagined modern palette of fun and bright colors. A top-selling collection, Bohemian explores the use of graphic tile patterns, traditional folk motifs, and large scale with bold pops of color. It is machine-woven of polypropylene in Egypt and features a textured yarn system for added dimension. The fashionable range carries a suggested retail of $299 in 5'3"x7'6". 
 
Market shoppers will find a huge assortment of new for 2017 collections at OW showrooms in Atlanta and Las Vegas, including the abstract designs of Evolution, an instant hit since its January introduction and a new range of florals and botanicals from Tommy Bahama (read full story). RIZZY HOME
 
Rizzy showcases the fine Gossamer collection of power-loomed designs at Atlanta and Las Vegas markets.

Rizzy Home spotlights the new Gossamer collection of power-loomed transitional and updated traditional designs at summer markets. Crafted from New Zealand wool that is hand-washed four times, Gossamer retails at $599. The company also expects continued high marks for the machine made Panache collection of rugs featuring its proprietary polypropylene fiber called Zerlon.

In addition to several bed fashion introductions in styles from Boho to geometrics and painterly watercolors, Rizzy Home will launch a new licensing program of Simply Southern Pillows. Premiering in Atlanta and Las Vegas, the pillows feature southern words of wisdom and iconic old south motifs, and are embellished with tassels or pom-poms on the edges. Made from 100 percent cotton, each 18x18 pillow retails at $59, and is adorned with a gold Simply Southern logo bar.  AmericasMart, 1-6-C3 and 1-6-C8. Las Vegas Market, A444.

SAFAVIEH
 
Safavieh offers the vibrant Crystal collection design (CRS512S) at markets in Atlanta and Las Vegas this summer.
 
From Safavieh come two new collections that update classic design motifs in vivid colors and distinctively contemporary finishes. The Crystal collection features traditional designs refreshed with brilliant colors and a distressed patina. With a zero-pile construction, the collection is power loomed using supple synthetic yarns of polypropylene in Turkey for long lasting color. The suggested MSRP is $400 in 5x8. 

Also reworking classic designs in high fashion style with fresh color combinations, classic motifs and a distressed finish is the new Skyler collection, which is made using soft, yet durable synthetic yarns for a soothing feel underfoot, long-lasting textures and vibrant color. Safavieh's Skyler rugs carry an MSRP of $144 in 5'1" X 7'6". AmericasMart, 1-5-A2. Las Vegas Market, A101.
 
SURYA
 
Surya showcases the updated traditional designs of the new Tessera collection at markets in Atlanta.

Surya, which previewed a few of its newest lines at Dallas summer market, now unveils eight additional new rug collections in Atlanta (read full story) along with its latest pillow, lighting and mirror designs. The new area rug collections continue to grow with designs across the price and style spectrum and include the machine-made Tessera collection of 19 updated classic designs with an MSRP of $122 for 5'3" x 7'3".

Among its fresh new offerings featuring traditional designs reworked for today's consumers, Surya's machine-made Ephesians collection is a standout with center medallions and border patterns in hot fashion colors. The new Crafty range includes 19 machine-made rugs cross-woven with a cotton backing in traditional patterns with fringing. Summer shoppers should also look for the machine-made Tibetan collection, created in a palette of grays paired with cream, and Elise, a machine-made collection of designs range from traditional to abstract with a distressed, antique aesthetic in 95 percent polypropylene and five percent polyester. AmericasMart, 1-11-A1.

TAMARIAN
 
Tamarian's Cabo design in Himalayan wool offers a soft contemporary spin on classic diagonal plaid motifs.

Hand-knotted specialist Tamarian, known for its Tibetan rugs in an assortment spanning traditional classics to soft contemporary looks, brings several new collections to the Atlanta International Rug Market this summer. Included are two designs crafted of pure Himalayan shoulder wool: Bowery PW in nude mist and Cabo PW in stone blue. The company also shows three designs in the twisted-knot construction: its best-selling Khaten pattern, which gets updated with a color palette called tundra, Eon TK in cumulus, and Overlap in glaucous, which is crafted of 60 percent wool and 40 percent silk. AmericasMart, 1-6-E18


TAYSE
 
This new Fairview collection design will be on view at Tayse's showroom during Las Vegas Market.

Tayse, which shows in Las Vegas, continues to push the envelope with machine-made artistry in the Fairview collection. Made of soft, space dyed polyester with a flexible cotton backing, Fairview's traditional artisan designs will appeal to a wide range of consumers, as will a color palette of ivory, brown, navy, and spice. The rugs retail for around $200 for a 5x8.

Another newcomer is Pacifica, a new 16-color polypropylene range of abstract and transitional designs. Also on display will be the new Norwalk, Escada, Museo, the micro-fiber polyester Charter, the high-low Taos collection, the space dyed Aurora range, and a new micro-fiber shag collection. Las Vegas Market, C-768.

TRANS-OCEAN
 
Plum Blossom from the new Roma collection by Liora Manne for Trans-Ocean debuts in wool and viscose.

 

 

 

Trans-Ocean highlights the indoor/outdoor lifestyle with several new looks, all original collections by Liora Manne, the company's designer. The indoor Lalunita collection isn't designed to be used outdoors because of its thick construction, but has the same informal and easy-to-maintain qualities as the company's outdoor lines, will be shown in marbled looks, stripes, oversized medallions, tropical leaves, whimsical animals, and more.

 

Manne's coastal-themed Capri collection for Trans-Ocean is expanded with playful marine life motifs and a tropical Palm Leaf design, all crafted of a blend of 50 percent polyester and 50 percent acrylic. Available sizes include 24x36, 42x66, 5' x 7'6", 7'6" x 9'6", and 24"x 8' runner. MSRP in 5'x7'6 is $355.

 

The popular indoor-outdoor Frontporch collection's easy to clean indoor-outdoor rugs and mats come in a variety of designs and motifs and can be used in the kitchen, bathroom, porch, or more. New for summer is the hand-tufted Rainbow & Clouds design in 80% polyester and 20% acrylic at $425 in 5x7'6".

 

Look for Reef Border Blue, part of the Visions IV collection, made in Manne's proprietary Lamontage process, which is also suitable for indoor-outdoor use. And the new Plum Blossom design from the Roma collection debuts in a combination of 75% wool and 25% viscose pile. Hand tufted in India with subtle variations of pile height and an elegant subtle sheen, Roma area rugs retail at $850.00 in 5x8.

UNITED WEAVERS
 
United Weavers offers the new Jules collection in machine-made designs that feature a plush texture and vintage look. 

United Weavers brings five new collections to Atlanta and Las Vegas for summer markets (read full story). Two of those collections, Rhapsody (retails range $249-$299 for room size) and Jules ($249-$299), rework iconic Persian design elements for contemporary interiors. Both are made of heat-set olefin and polyester yarns. United Weavers also showcases the new Twelve Oaks, which recalls old Southern Plantation handmade area rugs using a heavy weight construction of space-dyed polyester yarn on a cotton back.
