TRENDCAST 04 BY RUGNEWS.COM: "DESIGN INTELLIGENCE FOR THE RUG INDUSTRY"

The editors of RugNews.com present a fresh approach to interior products in Fashion Cutouts â€” a trend where laser cut designs offer up a modern twist in home design. A look that appeared in a big way in ready-to-wear runway collections during spring and summer 2015 fashion weeks, laser cut designs quickly made their way into the world of interiors. Click here to see more.

Top home design shows in 2015, including ICFF, the Architectural Digest Home Show and Maison & Objet in Paris, saw laser cut introductions in a range of home products from floor coverings, to pillows and wall hangings. A technique that lends a contemporary spin to interiors, laser cut home accessories and fashions range from strong graphic statements to delicate lace-inspired pattern or strict grid-patterned lattice forms. New technology has made laser cutting more readily available in a range of products, allowing designs to take a rigid architectural approach, or strike a more romantic pose.

The look continued to evolve at spring 2016 collections, including Balmain in Paris and Herve Leger by Max Azria's ready-to-wear collections.

Mina Victory Couture by Nourison

Nourison unveiled a range of laser cut natural leather pillows from Mina Victory Couture at the Arch Digest Home Show and ICFF earlier this year. Designed by Mina Peykar, the line also includes table runners and window panels, all with splashes of metallic foil.

Parentesi Quadra

The Tuscan workshop of Parentesi Quadra offers updated renditions of the ancient Italian art which translates to embroidery "filet," with a spectacular collection of lacy laser-cut motifs on leather carpet tiles and rugs spotted at ICFF 2015.

Selina Rose

Award-winning British designer Selina Rose creates a line of intricately cut 100 percent wool felt bespoke products ranging from rugs, acoustic panels, screens, room dividers, table runners, lighting and upholstery. The Bloom pattern is shown.

The Valentino collection by Surya features a white laser cut rug hand crafted in India of 100 percent felted wool with hand-stitched edges. Suggested retail for a 5' x 7' rug is $1,388.
