ORIENTAL WEAVERS SHOWCASES DESIGN DIVERSITY WITH 2018 RUG INTRODUCTIONS

Oriental Weaver's Tommy Bahama Home adds several new collections including Angora, featuring a hand-knotted Soumack weave in wool.

DALTON, Ga. -- Retailers shopping Oriental Weavers at the winter 2018 Atlanta and Las Vegas markets discovered 11 new collections addressing the company's forecasted trends in design, color, weave and fiber, and styled for a broad base of consumers.

The rugs will premiere to NY Home Fashions Market buyers at the company's 295 Fifth Ave. showroom March 19-22.

At its AmericasMart showroom in Atlanta, OW designated a special shop to showcase the Tommy Bahama Home licensed rug program, which premiered three new collections for 2018. The Angora collection from Tommy Bahama signals two important consumer trends: a renewed interest in the casual flatweave and traditional motifs of Soumak designs, and the demand for bigger rugs for larger, open plan interiors.

"This is the first Soumak we have ever brought to market," explained Angie Shook, director of marketing for Oriental Weavers of the 100 percent wool, hand-woven reversible collection. "We are offering Angora in a runner, plus sizes from a true 6x9 to 10x14 because the demand for 5x8s has gone down in recent years." Retail for the 6x9 is $1,399.

Boucle by Tommy Bahama Home, a new machine-woven design in 100 percent natural undyed wool, gives the popular consumer label another fresh look, this time a boucle texture that works equally well as a standalone rug or used under a patterned rug for a layered look. Retail is $249 in 5'3" x 7'6".

Tommy Bahama by Oriental Weavers introduces the new hand-tufted Lucent collection, which showcases a contrast of matte and luster from super-soft wool and viscose.

Designed with the Tommy Bahama lifestyle in mind, the just-released Lucent collection is hand-tufted in India of wool and viscose. "It's causal but sophisticated -- great for the Tommy Bahama customer," Shook noted, adding that OW refers to the look as an "active solid" --addressing trending preference among consumers for lots of texture in solid tonal looks, which the company achieves with space-dyed yarn. Retail is $599 in 5x8.

Soft Textures, Tassels and Fringe

The new machine-made Pandora range from Oriental Weavers puts a spotlight on space-dyed texture and a super-soft hand.

Oriental Weavers offered retailers diverse collections designed to meet the growing trend for soft, plush textures. With its 14 traditional designs, the new machine-woven Pandora series features polypropylene with space-dyed texture and a super-soft hand crafted. Retail is $249 in 5'3"x7'6".

Another ultra-soft 2018 debut, the Madison collection is hand-tufted in China of 100 percent space-dyed polyester. The line features 10 tribal and center medallion designs, fringed with tassels, and saturated jewel tone colors. $349 in 5x8.

The hand-tufted Madison collection, a 2018 release from Oriental Weavers, features a casual Boho-friendly vibe.

In the new Anatolia collection, which is machine-made of space-dyed wool, Oriental Weavers embellishes traditional Oushak designs with fringe incorporated from the weft. "The fringe is a different length on every one of these rugs -- we're going for a true handmade look," Shook told RugNews.com. Retail is $649 in 5'3"x7'6".

The new Sofia range by Oriental Weavers features a polyester chenille face embellished with unique blanket stitch finishing.

The new Sofia collection offers the appeal of one of a kind antique hand-knotted rugs in state of the art machine weaving. Made in Turkey, the 10 distressed traditional designs are woven with a polyester chenille face and recycled cotton back, and embellished with unique blanket stitch finishing. Retail is $199 in 5x8.

Oriental Weavers presents its interpretation of the important new trend to rugs with mosaic effects in the premiering Tallavera collection. Mosaics were front and center at both European and U.S. trade shows in January 2018 in a variety of weaves and price points. With Tallavera, OW creates mosaic-look tile patterns hand-tufted of 100 percent wool in a loop construction and tonal colorations. $399 in 5x8.

Zahara, a new wool hand-tufted loop collection, features a cozy, chunky construction.

In Zahra, an Indian-made hand-tufted collection of 100 percent space-dyed wool, Oriental Weavers features a cozy chunky loop construction. The line debuts in tonal neutrals with pops of gold, pumpkin, magenta and turquoise in patterns with traditional Boho styling. Retail is $299 in 5x8.
Two new collections, both machine-woven in Egypt, were also introduced for 2018. These include Mantra, a polypropylene and polyester blend in three tonal colors ($349), and the beautifully textured Montage, which combines space-dyed wool with shrink polyester to achieve a high-low effect ($599 in 5'3"x7'6"). Montage features abstract and transitional designs that coordinate in color, illustrating Oriental Weavers' all through the home coordination capabilities, which it promotes for up-selling rugs in open plan interiors.
