SAMAD TO DEBUT 'REVOLUTIONARY' MACHINE-MADE COLLECTION AT THE RUG SHOW AT JAVITS

Samad introduces Nirvana, a new machine-made transitional collection that marries technology and hand artistry, pictured in the Peace design.

NEW YORK -- Samad, known in the past several decades as a go-to source for fine handmade decorative rugs, introduces its first machine-made rug collection at The Rug Show, running here from September 10-13.

Crafted on Wilton looms in Turkey, Nirvana, as the collection is called, marries technology with handcraft and artistry, and features a hand finish and end product that Samad describes as revolutionary.

"At The Rug Show, you will see a big difference from 2015," David Samad, who runs the New Jersey based operation along with his brother Malcolm, told RugNews.com. "Samad should not only be perceived as a high-end decorative rug importer but also as a source for more affordable collections made for the modern trends of the moment."

David and Malcolm Samad, principals of Samad, will launch their first machine made line with a revolutionary finish at The Rug Show.

Fabricated with high quality wool and bamboo silk, Nirvana rugs are washed by hand, hand-sheared and share every aspect of the finishing processes of the company's hand-made counterparts, Samad said.

"The collection is programmed at a more reasonable price point and that is exciting. We are hoping to draw more people that perceive Samad to be only high end," Samad continued, pointing out that in the company's early days, it was known for its mid-range price points.

"We had shut the door unintentionally on many of our customers from two decades ago and those are the clients that will love these products. The new collection is highly transitional, highly in, and at a price point that is affordable."

Samad's Nirvana collection is made on Wilton looms in Western Turkey, and finished entirely by hand. Shown, the Elation design in charcoal.

Crafted by women from the Ushak region of Western Turkey, each rug undergoes a time-consuming finishing process done by hand. During these stages of production, the use of machines is restricted and is only used for tying the carpets together. From the washing to the finishing of the rug, each step is carried out by hand to ensure the highest possible quality standard.

"Every five or 10 years we cause a little revolution in rug industry and this is a revolution," Samad exclaimed. "The hand finish will shock people, it is machine made but all the finishing qualities are the same as our other carpets. It is not a cheap product to make: this is a little more sophisticated."
