NYCxDESIGN FLOORING AWARDS GO TO NANIMARQUINA, GAN & MOHAWK GROUP

Spanish designer Jamie Hayon's unique Hayon x Nani rug for Nanimarquina was named the top design in the residential rug category at the NYCxDesign Awards gala on May 20.

NEW YORK - Of the four international rug companies named finalists in the 2017 NYCxDESIGN Awards, Nanimarquina took top honors for its Hayon x Nani, a collaboration with design icon Jamie Hayon at a gala awards ceremony at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) on Saturday, May 20.

In addition, GAN beat out products entries from furniture to umbrellas and won the outdoor category with its Garden Layers collection by Patricia Urquiola. And in commercial soft surface flooring, the winner was Moonscapes designed by Mohawk Group in collaboration with 13&9.

Rug houses Ayka Design, Kasthall, and Warp & Weft were recognized as honorees at the ceremony for designs which surfaced as the best of all rug submissions in the coveted awards program, which was judged this year by a roster of 30 design industry luminaries.

Interior Design and ICFF created The NYCxDESIGN Awards to honor the outstanding product exhibited throughout NYCxDESIGN, a citywide celebration of design that takes place each May in New York City. The event brings together all the disciplines of design, commerce, culture, education, and entertainment with a full, varied program, including exhibitions, installations, trade shows, talks, launches and open studios.

NYCxDESIGN Awards are open to products from companies exhibiting at affiliated shows including ICFF, WantedDesign, Collective Design, BKLYN Designs, Sight Unseen Offsite, etc., as well as product shown in NYC-based showrooms, design centers, design districts or temporary installations.

NANIMARQUINA

Designed for the rug maker's 30th anniversary, the Hayon x Nani collection is based on original sketches created by the celebrated Spanish designer Jamie Hayon. The carpets have 50,000 knots per square meter and are over-tufted. Nanimarquina's showroom is in the SoHo Design District.

GAN RUGS

Designed by the iconic Patricia Urquiola, the new Garden Layers collection by GAN includes rugs power loomed of polypropylene, and pillows, foam filled lounge mats, and large-scale neck rolls in color and pattern matching outdoor fabrics.

MOHAWK GROUP

Inspired by the abstracted patterns of the landscape of the moon, Moonscapes broadloom patterns are designed so the running line carpet can easily be adapted into pre-determined rug sizes. The line uses precision dye injected graphics of a textured pattern, to create a visual and tactile sculptural effect. Utilizing Mohawk Group's patented Synthesis technology, color gradients layer atop a textured base and create a three-dimensional carpet made of the company's Colorstrand fiber.

Following are the rugs designed by the 2017 honorees:

AYKA DESIGN

KASTHALL
