ZOLLANVARI DEBUTS CUTTING-EDGE NEW COLLECTIONS, DESIGNS AT DOMOTEX 2017

Zollanvari 'snew Rapture 4 the Kundan Pure Silk collection has been shortlisted for Domotex' Carpet Design Awards in the Best Modern Design Deluxe category

HANOVER, Germany -- Zollanvari will present several new innovative collections and designs at Domotex 2017, held from Jan. 14,2017. In addition, one of the new designs, Rapture 4, has been shortlisted for the Carpet Design Award's Best Modern Design Deluxe category.

The Switzerland-based international maker of Persian rugs has participated in Domotex for more than 20 years. Last year Zollanvari was recognized when Glow, from the Kundan Silk collection, was awarded of Best Innovation and Best Liked by Domotex Visitors, and later received a Special Mention at the German Design Awards.

In addition, Zollanvari was bestowed the rigorous OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certificate Class II for "handwoven carpets (rugs, gabbehs, kilims, and jajims) made from hand-spun sheep wool and traditionally dyed with herbal natural dyes." New design developments for Domotex 2017 include:

Graffiti, Gabbehs Abstract & Plain Collection

Graffiti 2 is a new design in Zollanvari's Gabbehs Abstract & Plain collection.

The Graffiti line from Gabbehs Abstract & Plain takes inspiration from ancient gabbehs (pile rugs traditionally used as bedding characterized by an abstract design that rely on playful geometry). We have transformed archaic design motifs of ancient gabbehs into a thoroughly contemporary design with a twist and in a combination of cool pastel and zany vibrant colors. The design of each of the eight carpets in this line is original.

Kyoto Collection, Gabbehs Abstract & Plain Collection

Zollanvari debuts the new Kyoto collection of designs inspired by contemporary Japanese textiles.

The new Kyoto collection, which looks to contemporary Japanese textiles for inspiration, debuts at Domotex. With intricate bold designs in sophisticated color combinations and complex ikat-like patterns, these designs are some of the most challenging designs Zollanvari have presented to its nomadic weavers to execute. The full collection will be presented in the spring of 2017.

Maghreb'i Zigorat and Zigorat Pelt Collection, Transitional Tribal

The new Zigorat Pelt line by Zollanvari marries a high-pile technique of Zigorat carpets with ends that are flatwoven (kilim).

Two new collections get added to the Transitional Tribal range and represent a fusion of various tribal traditions: Berber carpets of the Beni Ourain people and Zigorat carpets of the Fars region of Iran. Maghreb'i Zigorat carpets combine the style and quality of the weavings of the southern Iran's nomads with Berber designs from the Rif Mountain region of Morocco. The Zigorat Pelt line marries a high-pile technique of Zigorat carpets with flatwoven (kilim) ends, featuring design motifs of traditional gabbehs and the animal pelt effects of Berber rugs.

Caprino and Zig Zag Blocks (Baneh), the Flatweaves Minimalist Collection

Zollanvari introduces Caprino, a flatwoven modernist design with super-imposed pile-knotted lines.

The new Caprino collection, woven from undyed goat's hair featuring superimposed pile-knotted erratic modernist lines in bright colors. These striped plain cream and black/brown kilims were used principally to furnish the walls and doors of the nomad's tents, a tradition Zollanvari revives but with a fresh design twist. Zollanvari's Baneh kilims are normally woven in strips using natural undyed wools in shades of cream and black and then skilfully stitched together by weavers in northern Iran. However, the company tweaks the technique for another company first. The debuting Zig Zag Blocks Baneh collection superimposes intricate zigzag-like patterns of fine blocks and comb-like elements to create a sophisticated pattern. The unique abrashed wool uses complementing and contrasting colors, as well as undyed wool for a highlight effect.

Rapture, the Kundan Pure Silk Collection

The intricate abstract designs of Rapture take Zollanvari weavers twice as long to execute as other Zollanvari lines.

The abstract Rapture is the second contemporary design line from Zollanvari's Kundan Silk collection. The six carpet designs feature a realistic recreation of brush strokes and color crossovers. The complexity of the design of each took weavers twice as long to execute and for each carpet, each weaver has to work individually on their part rather than the usual three weavers working side by side.

Other highlights will include new Jeziorak and Floral Cartouche designs from the Designer Isfahan collection; playful and naive gabbehs from Landscapes of My Fatherland, Squares Revisited (including Yin Yang Squares), and Into the Woods lines; Leopard from the Iridescence line, a Kundan Pure Silk collection; Rolling Hills, Chimera and new Mirage designs from Gabbehs Abstract & Plain; and vibrant jajims and mafrash chests and tables in new shapes and sizes.
