04212014 Safavieh Aubusson Rug Chosen for Oprah Magazine Cover

PORT WASHINGTON, NY – One of Safavieh’s Aubusson rugs was selected for Oprah Winfrey’s May 2014 cover of O, the Oprah magazine. The delicate floral rug was chosen from a selection of pink and beige designs submitted by Safavieh to the stylist for the cover shoot.

Safavieh reports noticing a resurgence of interest in classic French designs since early 2013, including the Aubusson flat weave collection, which is hand-woven, and the Savonnerie collection, a hand-tufted line. Both collections are made in China of wool. The look coincides with an uptick of glamorous traditional interiors appearing in shelter magazines. 

For the cover, Oprah wore a purple dress from Carms Couture Designs by Vicky Tiel and shoes from a new collection by Sarah Jessica Parker. Winfrey was photographed by Ruven Afanador for O Magazine. The rug was also the setting for an interview of Oprah with ET television. 

In the ET interview O Magazine’s editor at large Gayle King said that after 15 years and almost 200 covers the May 2014 issue has the only Winfrey cover where she’s lying down.
