THE RUG SHOW NYC ANNOUNCES CARPET DESIGN CONTEST, WORKSHOPS LED BY CREATIVE MATTERS TEAM

The award-winning designers at Creative Matters (founder Carol Sebert above) will lead carpet design workshops on Sept. 11 and 12 at the Rug Show NYC at the Javits Convention Center.

NEW YORK -- The Rug Show New York, to be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center here Sept. 10-13, 2017, will hold interactive workshop sessions on the basics of carpet design conducted by the award-winning designers of Toronto-based couture rug house Creative Matters.

Hosted by Creative Matters and Cover Magazine to provide a greater understanding of the process of transforming the designer's art into production-ready rug designs, the workshop series concludes with one participant's rug chosen as "Best Design - Art Day at The Rug Show." The winning design will be taken into production with one piece gifted to the designer, and the other raffled with the proceeds going to Label STEP, a non-profit organization which promotes fair trade within the handmade rug industry.
Inspired by the regular "Art Days" held by Creative Matters to give its own staff the complete freedom of creative expression Sebert says comes from designing by hand rather than with CAD, the Rug Show's one-hour workshops will give designers, students and visitors the opportunity to experiment with pastel, charcoal, ink and more for their rug designs.

Participants will also earn one CEU for participation in the workshop and registration is by email (deadline Sept.1) at marketing@therugshow.com.

Sessions will be held on Monday, Sept. 11, at 3:30pm, and on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 9:30am, 11:30am and 2:00pm. The Tuesday 2pm workshop will be followed by a Cover Magazine cocktail party at 3pm at the show.
