08152018 NY NOW Rug Exhibitors Showcase Eclectic Looks with Boho Spotlight

NY NOW RUG EXHIBITORS SHOWCASE ECLECTIC LOOKS WITH FOCUS ON BOHO

NEW YORK -- Exhibitors in the rug category presented an eclectic portfolio of design styles at this week's NY NOW, held Aug. 12 - 15 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. But in keeping with the show's growing global focus on handmade goods, there was a decided emphasis on Boho patterns and colors.

To that point, Bohemian style maven Justina Blakeney headlined an opening day trend talk and book signing held in NY NOW's Handmade section. The New York Times best-selling author of The Bohemians and The New Bohemians Handbook, Blakeney created quite the buzz by transforming Selamat's booth into a show stopping "living room" dripping with her signature Jungalow style, and coordinating her licensed pillows and rugs from Loloi with Selamat furniture.

At the Selamat booth, designer Justina Blakeney fashions a living room in New Bohemians style with her licensed furniture designs for Selamat and popular rugs and pillows for Loloi.

While Eliko showcased lots of transitional looks, the company is also known for antique and vintage rugs, including a recently acquired collection of tulu designs in fun multi-color stripes designers liked as an upscale take on Boho style. Other exhibitors such as F.J. Kashanian straddled both contemporary and Bohemian chic looks with luxe abstracts in wool with silk or bamboo silk contrasting Old World designs dressed up in bright fashion colors.

At this summer's NY NOW, cross-category exhibitor Pasargad catered to designers on the hunt for transitional and contemporary glamour with lustrous furniture fabrics, accent pieces and rugs, plus sleek additions to the company's Galaxy collection of cowhide rugs in geometric patterns.

The number of mainstream rug exhibitors held steady, but the summer show attracted a growing number of smaller "makers", rather than adding new wholesalers with brand recognition. Some of the new exhibitors on the roster included Chilean Crafts, Handcraft Mania, Doing Goods and an Egyptian pavilion featuring rugs from Kiliim, a social enterprise that aims to revive and sustain the local craft of handmade kilim making in Egypt.
