DOMOTEX 2016 ANNOUNCES INNOVATIONS JURY SELECTIONS IN HARD SURFACE, TEXTILES, YARNS

HANNOVER -- The stars of the upcoming Innovations@DOMOTEX showcase have been chosen in the categories of resilient and textile floor coverings including fibers and yarns, parquet and laminate flooring, and application and installation technology. An expert jury headed by German industrial designer Stefan Diez has decided which products will receive premium exposure at DOMOTEX 2016, which runs in Hannover, Germany, from Jan. 16 - 19.

Of the total 123 products and solutions submitted, 60 made the cut at the jury meeting on Nov. 11, 2015. Innovations in the "modern hand-made carpets and rugs" category will be selected in a separate process by a group of international design and carpet industry experts.

This year, the jury made special mention of the increased interest in participating in Innovations@DOMOTEX. "It's not just that there have been more entries this year. We were also deeply impressed with the quality of the innovations submitted," said jury chairman Stefan Diez. "We had the pleasure of assessing some truly exciting products. Some of them were beyond anything we had seen before, while others constituted innovative refinements of more familiar types of products."

The following companies were selected for Innovations@DOMOTEX in the category of Textile Floor Coverings, Fibers and Yarns.

-Beaulieu International Group NV for Xtinguish
-Edel Tapijt B.V. for Poetry
-Edel Tapijt B.V. for Eternity

Soft surface trends

In terms of design, the luxury vinyl tiles and fitted carpets on display at Innovations@DOMOTEX will evince a strong orientation toward more authentic-looking surface textures. This is in keeping with growing demand for rough-hewn looks created by surface irregularities. "With carpets, for instance, this effect can be achieved by creating slight variations in pile height, which gives the carpet a hand-made look," Stefan Diez explains. With fitted carpets, the big trends include a move towards high-end products and a rise in the use of carpet tiles and planks. "The upcoming Innovations@DOMOTEX showcase will unveil a number of totally new types of products," said jury member Manfred Birkenstock, the Managing Director of Copa eG.

Ideas, inspiration and solutions

The jury members, drawn from such diverse disciplines as design, architecture, media, real estate and interior furnishing, assessed the submitted products and solutions against the following criteria: relevance for the target group, technological innovation, design and quality.

"The products that we selected for Innovations@DOMOTEX merit special attention at the upcoming DOMOTEX," said jury member Richard Kille, managing director of the Cologne, Germany-based Institute for Flooring and Interior Decoration (IFR Köln). "They will be valuable a source of ideas, inspiration and solutions for the show's visiting trade professionals and designers."

The Innovations@DOMOTEX format premiered successfully at DOMOTEX 2014.  It features a series of special display areas in halls 6 (resilient and textile floor covering), 9 (parquet and laminate flooring and application and installation technology) and 17 (modern hand-made carpets and rugs). The idea behind the format is to channel visitors directly to these special display areas, where they can gain a quick comparative overview of the hottest new trends and developments.
