HANNOVER,
GERMANY - As the world's leading trade fair for carpets and floor
coverings, DOMOTEX (January 16 to 19, 2016) showcases the latest trends
and developments from every segment of the floor coverings universe.
They announced today that a long-time star exhibitor at DOMOTEX,
Zollanvari, has achieved added prominence this year due to its
involvement in a design project for the prestigious hotel Schloss Elmau
in Bavaria, and its new companion "Retreat" hotel which hosted the G7
Summit in early June, 2105.
Set to
exhibit at DOMOTEX 2016, Zollanvari is a family enterprise that
manufactures and supplies handmade carpets made by the company's network
of nomadic weavers in Southern Iran. The five-star Schloss Elmau hotel
is located 100 kilometers to the south of Munich on the edge of the
Alps. Completed in March 2015, the "Retreat" hotel was seen by TV
viewers across the world as host of heads of state during the 2015 G7
Summit.
According
to a press release issued by DOMOTEX, Hotel owner Dietmar Müller-Elmau
has a penchant for handcrafted carpets and personally directs design at
his hotel establishments. This includes the Amaleh carpets by Zollanvari
used for the refurbishment of the original Schloss Elmau hotel, and
custom designs by Müller-Elmau produced by Zollanvari for the new
Retreat hotel. The carpets are minimalistic, with a special radiance
resulting from the interplay between two shades of red. A plain border
of light red surrounds a darker red area, thus evoking an expansive
feel. The modern Persian carpets feature a very low 5 mm nap to reduce
the risk of stumbling.
To
complement the dominant color scheme of gold, natural wood hues and red,
Dietmar Müller-Elmau opted for 100% highland wool in the rich red tones
of natural plant dyes. Amaleh carpets have been traditionally
handcrafted by the nomadic Amaleh people of Southern Iran for centuries.
The carpets are dyed red using common madder, but the exact composition
of the natural red dyes used remains a secret. Older roots are used to
achieve darker hues, while younger roots produce lighter shades. The
yarn is woven in different layers, making the carpets more hardwearing
and creating rich, harmonious color effects. All the materials used
originate from the Amaleh region in the Iranian province of Fars.

The hotel
owner's distinctive design signature is evident throughout Hotel Schloss
Elmau and the new Retreat hotel. Dietmar Müller-Elmau was responsible
for every design detail, including the wooden flooring in the hotel
rooms. In each room the custom-made carpets measure no more than 9'8"x
6'6". Throughout the foyer and lobby areas custom-made carpets with
individual dimensions abound.
Handmade
carpets are just one example of the myriad possibilities open to
architects and interior designers wishing to achieve beautiful
contemporary floor designs. Creative professionals from the fields of
architecture, interior design and decorating will find ample inspiration
and ideas for individual flooring design at DOMOTEX 2016. This trade
fair has long been a leading international forum for the flooring
sector. It is here that designers come to compare notes and catch up on
the latest trends and fresh ideas.
