MUST-SEE RUGS: HIGH POINT MARKET BUYERS' HIT LIST, PART 1

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- While the fashion trends laid out earlier this year at shows in Las Vegas, Atlanta and New York continue to be in play, the big rug story for High Point Market shoppers will be innovative constructions that push the fashion bar to its limits.

Area rug vendors will be offering plenty of newness to capture the attention of the buyers, especially their innovations in technology, ranging from more vividly colored designs, printed designs on unexpected textures, uber-soft microfiber yarns, and fresh weaving techniques that improve the drape (and flexibility) of area rugs -- so important in the era of rugs' starring role in home décor makeovers.

From a fashion point of view, color will be omnipresent. Although blue and gray palettes have become today's neutrals, lively pinks, reds, oranges and yellows (and conversely powdery blues and pastel pinks) inject contemporary designs with new life. Updated tribals, abstract styles and classic Persian motifs dominate this spring, but super plush styles and innovative printed designs will shine through as well.

The spring 2017 edition of High Point Market -- beginning a day ahead of its scheduled April 22 official opening -- gives rug vendors an extended platform to put their best rugs forward. From fresh, fun hand-crafted designs to minimalist, to lustrous Nepalese and Tibetans, to artist collaborations in everything from machine-made rugs to hand tufted, following is our guide to rugs in major buildings as well as off-campus showrooms.
