BOHEMIAN & TRIBAL LOOKS HEADLINE 2017 RUG COLLECTIONS -- PART 2


ATLANTA / LAS VEGAS -- At the January Atlanta International Area Rug Market and Las Vegas Market, the biggest fashion stories for 2017 included a unanimous emphasis on Bohemian looks. So while there was a notable presence in abstracts designs or product innovations, the headliner was a range of fresh free-spirited designs.
 
In this exclusive multi-part series, RugNews.com analyzes the trends on display at dozens of AmericasMart Atlanta showrooms, and catches up with several vendors who launched their 2017 lines at Las Vegas Market. Both markets prove that market shoppers at both home furnishings events cannot get enough of the Bohemian style.

MOMENI
 
Momeni introduces the Rustic Romance collection, brimming with Boho flair, at winter markets.  

Momeni has several popular Bohemian style collections which have been consistent best-sellers, as well as January introductions that highlight the look. "At Momeni, the Lima and Maya lines have performed well in response to the Boho trend,"  Reza Momeni told RugNews.com.
 
Buyers were attracted to the debuting Rustic Romance collection with its fun updated traditional designs and fashion colors. Another new collection called Margaux featured plush pile mod color combinations. which earned an America's Magnificent Carpet Award in the $0 to $16 per foot hand-tufted category (read full story).

NOURISON
 
The Vibrant collection debuted at Las Vegas Market with a full complement of tribal and Boho styles. 

Nourison created a buzz at Las Vegas Market with the launch of Vibrant, a pure wool hand-tufted collection with a rich loop pile. The line features especially brilliant color palettes, including shades of rose, ruby, turquoise, sapphire, peridot and amber, and an array of classic designs from tribal to Boho and beyond. 

In the hand-knotted category, Nourison does sophisticated Boho looks in the several collections proving the depth and breadth of its offerings.

A fresh young take on Boho, the brightly colored new Vibrant collection from Nourison offers bold color and lots of texture.

NULOOM
 
Nuloom combines fashion and value with the Dynasty collection, one of its winter market best sellers.

Dynasty and Mystic were Nuloom's Las Vegas Market hits with lots to offer in the Bohemian category. The company, an early proponent of the look, offers a Boho tab on its website to make finding the rugs easy for fashion-driven Millennials. 

"Dynasty is definitely a market hit. We in introduced it in High Point with a few designs, and added many more designs for Las Vegas. Mystic is also doing very well. Both are machine made," said principal, Koorosh Yaraghi.

"Buyers are responding because they want to try something a little different and they say Nuloom offers them that.  "It's a way for them to experiment with fashion at extremely low price points, so it works for them," he explained Mystic is 100 percent polyester, where Dynasty is polypropylene and 15 percent polyester to get some shiny areas.

A rug industry front-runner in the Boho trend, Nuloom's offerings include this sprightly design with whimsical calico and Persian motifs. 

ORIAN
 
At Orian, Bohemian looks were front and center in the company's style vignettes and many of the rugs were paired with new Sherwin-Williams colors. 

Bohemian style rug displays at Orian's showrooms were keyed to travel as well as Sherwin-Williams color projections for 2017 and beyond, as well as a global bazaar look replete with silk pillows reinforcing a color story revolving around indigo, paprika, red, orange and teal.
 
Scott Miller, director of design at Orian, said the Boho rugs are part of a new, free-spirited collection that was a market hit. Even more popular were rugs utilizing with the company's new weaving technology, dubbed Next Generation, which employs multiple shades of the same color to give more dimension and sharper detail and delineation between the different colors. 

The distressed Hearst white design is from a new collection by Orian that artistically blends deep, saturated colors with electric designs and textures from around the Globe.

ORIENTAL WEAVERS
 
OW created winter market buzz with the debuting Bohemian collection, which is machine woven of polypropylene.

One of Oriental Weavers' most impressive winter launches, the debuting Bohemian collection was a top seller at winter markets. 16 initial designs premiered, many of them featured in OW's show-stopping vignettes of the collection's fun, modern takes on traditional, and earning a Visual Display Award from AmericasMart at the January market (read full story).


"It's a very well rounded collection; all the designs are striking, and there's something for everyone," explained Angie Shook, director of marketing and public relations at OW. Machine woven of polypropylene, the line explores graphic tile patterns, traditional folk motifs and large scale Persian medallions in a loose casual weave.

 

"We see a resurgence of brights," Shook continued, noting that the Bohemian line features bright hues in warm tones of magenta, tangerine and citron; with cool shades of amethyst and light turquoise.


The Bohemian collection from Oriental Weavers includes 16 introductory designs featuring classic motifs updated with fashion colors.

RIZZY HOME
 
Granville is Rizzy Home's interpretation of the Bohemian look, with a high-low cut that emphasizes the folkloric floral pattern, and a warm color palette.

Boho is "exploding" at Rizzy Home according to Teresa Parris, creative and visual director. The company showed the look in both rugs and top of bed in dramatic showroom presentations at winter markets. Rizzy offers buyers an assortment that runs from Arts and Crafts-inspired designs to modified tribal patterns in brighter colors. Parris said positive response insures that the popular Bohemian style will be expanded, with more to come at New York Home Fashions and High Point markets. 

Zingaro from Rizzy Home has a relaxed tribal look and a refreshed take on classic tribal designs.

S&H RUGS
 
S&H pioneered the Bohemian look in high-end hand-knotteds with a series of Egyptian style maluk designs in a striking palette of colors.

High end, handmade rug vendor S&H returned to Atlanta for its second year running to showcase its contemporary and modern designs. The company has been a design pioneer in the Bohemian rug trend, beginning with a best-selling series of mamluk patterns reworked for a contemporary look in pure silk with oxidized wool and fashion jewel tones.

S&H also made a statement with tribal looks for 2017 with its neutral-hued Moroccan inspired rugs so popular with Boho design fans. Buyers also gravitated to the latest additions to the New Jersey company's Persian Broken Design, such as design SH32174 in sea foam and crafted of oxidized wool and bamboo silk in India. 

Tribal look rugs from S&H, influenced by Moroccan berbers, are an important component of Bohemian style.

SAFAVIEH
 
Safavieh expands the high-end hand-knotted Marrakech collection with sophisticated styling and new Bohemian jewel tones.

Safavieh covers Bohemian style with designs in both high-end and popular priced collections. The company expands its hand-knotted, pure wool Marrakech collection with a range of designs influenced by Moroccan motifs and textiles found in elegant grand bazaars. The line is offered in bold fashion colors as well as earthy neutrals, and available in multiple sizes including hallway runners.

Safavieh also reports brisk business at winter markets with its best-selling Vintage Persian collection, a vividly colored range that is power-loomed and finished with an heirloom patina. The line now includes 14 patterns ranging from classic traditionals updated with modern hues and pattern placement, to Bohemian chic designs.

An exotic combination of deep teal and orange gives an on-point Boho sensibility to this power-loomed design from Safavieh's Vintage Persian collection.

SURYA
 
The Boho-chic Marrakesh is among Surya's lineup of 14 machine-made collections launched at Atlanta International Rug Market.

Surya's impressive winter market lineup of 27 new collections and over 300 debuting rugs in a broad range of looks, price points and constructions included Bohemian-style designs in both hand-knotted and machine made lines (read full story). 
 
Indeed, half of the premiering collections at Surya were machine-woven, with innovative distressing, erased looks, and traditional motifs updated with a full range of vivid fashion colors. The company was awarded an America's Magnificent Carpet Award for the Tessera collection for machine made rugs $200 and under, illustrating the company's efforts to make sophisticated design more accessible to consumers (read full story).

TAYSE
 
A winter market hit for Tayse, the Heritage collection offers a young take on traditional with fresh colors and a Boho vibe.

Tayse launched its Heritage collection at Las Vegas Market in a select, finely-detailed assortment of traditional designs with soft polyester fibers on a cotton backing for a responsive touch. The machine-made rugs were offered in fashion colors updating traditional motifs with grey, taupe and blue grounds with fanciful pops of a yellow, lavender, paprika and orange.

The new Heritage collection from Tayse features Boho styling with fashion-forward gray ground accented with paprika and yellow-gold.

LIORA MANNE FOR TRANS-OCEAN
 
Printed on cotton, Trans-Ocean's Kermin medallion rug in tones of red, orange and cream combines affordability with the best of Boho drama.

Designer Liora Manne bridges classic Persian design with contemporary Boho Chic style in the machine-made Marbella collection. Crafted of cotton in Spain, the designs are printed on a flatweave base to create the illusion of timeworn vintage rugs. This manufacturing process allows Trans-Ocean to offer high fashion Marbella rugs at an affordable price point.

Capturing a European design sensibility, the Old Persian rug by Liora Manne for Trans-Ocean recreates the look of vintage patchwork rugs.
