PREVIEW PARTY PROVIDES SNEAK PEEK OF NYICS 2016

A dramatic gallery-style entrance greets guests arriving at the New York International Carpet Show 2016 at the Terminal Warehouse.

NEW YORK -- Rug industry executives, dealers and designers converged on the Terminal Warehouse also known as "The Tunnel" on Saturday evening, Sept. 10, for a sneak peek at the New York International Carpet Show (NYICS) 2016, which runs from Sept. 11-13.

Sponsored by Label STEP and Turquoise Mountain, the event offered guests a glimpse of what will be on show from boutique luxury rug makers, artisan weavers, designer studios and antiques dealers.

Encased in vintage brick, the arched walls of The Tunnel provided the opportunity to create a bazaar-like gallery backdrop for displays of transitional, traditional and contemporary designs from New York showrooms Jan Kath, Odegard Carpet, Patterson Flynn & Martin, Orley Shabahang and Rug & Kilim.

The West Coast's Ariana and Amadi presented their unique design aesthetics as did other top U.S. and international names including Jaipur Living and Asia Minor. While the styling of international exhibitors was distinctive, the exhibition also focused on the humanitarian work of industry players such as GoodWeave and Nouveau Afghan (read full story). Also a draw were booths showcasing the work of area rug designers Lucy Tupu and Amy Helfand.

For carpet aficionados, the piece de resistance is the show's first Antiques Pavilion, set off in its own separate wing to provide differentiation for its high-end antique carpet dealers.
