WOVEN CONCEPTS WINS 'BEST IN FLOORING' AT ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST DESIGN SHOW

NEW YORK -- Luxury rug maker Woven Concepts of Great Neck, N.Y. was honored with the distinction of 'Best in Flooring' at the 2016 Architectural Digest Design Show. Presented by the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA), the 'Best in Show' initiative at the AD Design Show is part of IFDA Selects, a program established to highlight new and innovative products at key design industry trade shows.

Woven Concepts was selected as best in flooring for its Odyssey  rug collection, which aced out not just other rugs, but also broadloom, tile, wood and other hard and soft surface flooring on display at the prestigious Arch Digest Show.

Nancy Fire, the IFDA-member judge assigned to select the flooring winner, is design director of HGTV Home, and creative director-founder of Design Works International.  "She selected us as best in flooring at the show, and the Aldrin rug from the Odyssey collection as the best rug design. She was looking into our booth for a while and then came over and said, "I loved this rug from the moment I saw it - I love the colors and textures.' We were completely surprised and very flattered, since she is the trend expert and design director at HGTV," said Jasmine Hakimian, customer relations director of Woven Concepts.

Both Jasmine and her sister Halleh, who handles international operations for the company, told RugNews.com that their father, Behrooz Hakimian is responsible for product development and that he conceptualized the three-dimensional, multi-textural Odyssey collection and created the designs.

Woven Concepts also featured the Haise (Pluto) design at the Arch Digest show, another new rug from the Best-in-Flooring Odyssey collection shown as a full rug above, and in detail below.

At the Woven Concepts AD show booth, Behrooz Hakimian quickly asserted that the award really belongs to all the workers in India who make the company's Odyssey rug collection. "We owe them the credit for this award; their incredible talents and workmanship made this possible.
This is an honor for us, but the award is really for all of our weavers, wool spinners, dyers, and finishers -- we thank everyone who worked so hard to make these rugs the best in show," Hakimian said.

Hand-knotted in India of distressed wool and reclaimed natural silk, the Odyssey collection is priced at $117 a foot, and features hand carving and oxidation to create a unique surface with three levels of visual and tactile texture. Inspired by NASA imagery, the designs combine an industrial modern aesthetic with cutting-edge technological innovation.

IFDA awards Best in Show honors in 10 categories at the Arch Digest show, including Furniture, Kitchen, Lighting, Bath, Decorative Accessories, Textiles, Art, Flooring, Wallcoverings and Innovative Booth Design. To make the presentation special for recipients, winners are presented with a framed certificate highlighting their achievement by the entire group of judges for all 10 categories, according to Rose Hittmeyer, IFDA NY Chapter administrator.

"When Nancy came back with our plaque, she had at least 10 other people with her, and it really was impressive," said Jasmine Hakimian. "I love the rug business.  It is our passion and he [Behrooz] is my inspiration.  I believe wholeheartedly in what he does," she concludes.
