PERENNIALS WINS INTERIOR DESIGN'S BEST OF YEAR AWARD FOR RUGS; FIVE RUG BRANDS ALSO LAUDED

From the Best of Year category-winning collection in rugs, the Rose design from Martyn Thompson for Perennials is hand knotted of solution-dyed acrylic yarn.

NEW YORK -- The annual Best of Year (BoY) awards by Interior Design magazine, presented on November 30 in multiple product and design project categories, honored the Martyn Thompson collection by Perennials Rugs as BoY 2018 winner in the carpet and rugs category.

In addition, five area rug and carpet finalists in the category include top designer brands Crosby Street Studios, Eskayel, Mansour Modern, Scott Group Studio and The Rug Company. Collaborations with big name designers scored well this year, among them David Rockwell for The Rug Company and Jeff Anderson for Mansour Modern, in addition to Perennials' partnership with Martyn Thompson.

Project and product winners of Interior Design's 13th annual Best of Year Awards were announced in New York City at the River Pavilion, Javits Center in a ceremony attended by more than 1,000 members of the architecture and design community, and hosted by editor in chief Cindy Allen and publisher Carol Cisco. In total, the Best of Year Awards included 2,000 entries and 586 finalists in 133 design categories.

Product entries go into a public product gallery and are voted on by the A&D community, this year from Oct. 9- 20, 2018. Results were reviewed and finalists determined by an Interior Design editorial panel.

MARTYN THOMPSON FOR PERENNIALS RUGS

Inspired by Thompson's love of layered textiles and avant-garde style, Perennials translates the artist's vision from his Manhattan studio to living spaces worldwide with luxury performance rugs. Rooted in nature and filled with lush ambient textures, Martyn Thompson's hand-knotted rugs for Perennials are designed for use indoors and outdoors under cover.

Handmade using Perennials 100 percent solution-dyed acrylic yarns, the rugs are resistant to mildew and fading, are made-to-order, and can be specified to nearly any size, shape and colorway.

CROSBY STREET STUDIOS

The abstract Wash design in the Sunset colorway from Crosby Street Studios was a finalist in the 2018 BOY awards.

The finalist from upscale New York City-based Crosby Street Studio, the Wash-Sunset rug, is from the Capsule Gallery I collection of four painterly designs: Dew, Monarch, Muse and Wash offered in various colorways. All rugs are hand knotted of wool and silk in Nepal.

The original artworks inspiring Wash and other designs in the Gallery 1 collection were painted using watercolor dyes on paper.

ESKAYEL STUDIO

Part of the Jamaa Series by Eskayel, the Tamadot Tesoro rug is woven of bamboo silk.

Inspired by a recent trip to Morocco, the Jamaa Series rug designs by Eskayel Studio's founder, Shanan Campanaro, are derived from original artworks painted at the boutique atelier. The collection draws on the experience of being in the lively city of Marrakech and the calm of the desert near the High Atlas Mountains, and translates this energy through the palette of each rug pattern.

The new collection of ten hand knotted rugs is constructed in combinations of silk and a super-soft merino wool, all hand knotted in variety of different weave structures and pile heights.

Rugs in the Jamaa Series range from the Tamadot Tesoro Rug in a 100 percent bamboo silk Terrier weave to super soft shaggy hand-tied designs, and wool flatweaves.

MANSOUR MODERN

Abstract is one of eight designs in the collection by Jeff Andrews for Mansour Modern chosen as a finalist in the 2018 BoY Awards.

A collaboration between internationally celebrated interior designer Jeff Andrews and global rug icon Benjamin Solemani, the new Jeff Andrews collection for Mansour Modern is Andrews' first rug line.

Featuring eight designs in multiple colorways, all handwoven of wool and silk, the collection blends bold, organic, and contemporary concepts with traditional handmade craftsmanship. The collection is available via Mansour Modern showrooms in Los Angeles, New York and London.

SCOTT GROUP STUDIO

Caravan from the Turas collection by Scott Group Studio is hand-tufted of wool and silk.

BoY Awards finalist, Scott Group Studio's Turas collection, is hand-tufted in Grand Rapids, Michigan by Scott Group Custom Carpets. Turas is the deeply-rooted Irish word for journey, and the collection's seven designs were influenced by cultural travel and movement. All of the patterns suggest direction and motion, and a contrast between light and dark. The Caravan, Alluvion and Viaje styles have blush, sand and beige undertones, while Alchera, Awani, Jetty and Trace feature variations of blacks, grays, white and dark indigo. The designs are all wool or silk and wool blends, with the silks emphasizing the subtleties in the tufting.

THE RUG COMPANY

Lola from a collection by David Rockwell for The Rug Company hand-knotted of Tibetan wool in Nepal.

No stranger to working with The Rug Company, architect and designer David Rockwell recently collaborated on three new designs for them that reference his love of nature: Lola, Misty and Moonlight Tidal. This new trio of luxurious rugs, earned distinction as BoY finalists for their subdued color schemes and eye-catching abstract designs that come together through modern techniques and traditional craftsmanship.
